Pain in breast *newbie here*

Hi all

Hope everyone is OK thank you for taking the time to click on my question.

I am 32 years old and a mum to a 3 year old boy who is under palliative care so you can imagine the worry I live with each day.

About 3 weeks ago I developed sharp pain in my right breast. The pain comes and goes throughout the day (better if I lay flat ). It doesn't feel like the achy boobs us ladies gave when we have out period it is more sharp and not in one place the pain moves through the day from the front to the top then under arm

I have not had regular cycles since having litlun 3 years ago and have only had 4 periods in 3 years. (I have literally just started my period 2 days ago)

I have been to the GP who did an examination and could not feel any lumps..  nipple is swollen abit but thats it apart from pain.

I have been referred to a breast clinic for a scan but the wait time is 5 weeks away. I'm super scared to be honest should I wait it out or try find the funds to go private which is nearly £600!

Thank you x

  • I went to the breast Clinic last year for pain in my breast (like you, not a full achey pain) and they examined me and said I was fine, and that pain is very rarely an indicator of breast cancer. Could it be referred pain from one of the muscles round there?
Sorry to hear about your little one, wishing you both all the best.

    Hi Hannah-Louise,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear about your little 'un. This is more than enough to have to deal with, without having this additional worry. As Danzieeeee has said, " pain is very rarely an indicator of breast cancer". Five weeks does seem like a long time to wait to be seen at the breast clinic. Can your GP not expedite this?

I doubt that you will gain much by going private, as costs are likely to rise if you need an ultrasound and biopsy, which most of us need. You would also find that, if the worst should happen and you did have cancer, you would then have a wait to be referred back to the NHS.

I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
