HPV and Low Grade dyskaryosis

Last year my results of my cervical smear came back with HPV with low grade dyskaryosis. I had a colposcopy and the consultant said he could not see any changes to my cervix and everything looked in order and not to worry, my body would probably clear itself of the virus and to have another smear in a year. So come this January I booked myself in for another cervical smear with the nurse at my doctors. I have just received my results yesterday and again it has come back HPV with low grade dyskaryosis. I am devastated. Now I have to wait for another colposcopy appointment.  Has this happened to anyone else. My body obviously has not cleared itself of the virus. Should I be more worried this time. Am really fed up.

  • Hi I received an email today saying they had discussed my case and because I've had low dyskaryosis two years in a row they want to give me a loop. They wanted me in tomorrow at 9am because they had a cancellation but I didn't read the email until 7pm tonight so now it's too late. I can't understand why she didn't ring me. And now she's off until after Easter so I'll probably have to wait now.

  • I had a leep today which was very painful. He numbed my cervix with injections and that was painful. I don't think he gave it time to work. He cut it with the leep and I felt it and was painful and when he corterised it I felt that as well. I nearly squeezed the nurses hand off because of the pain. It was all very rushed and when I was still getting dressed he said I'm off now and left me with the nurse. They will notify me if they see anything after investigation and said to have another smear in 6 months time. The nurse did say some people feel pain with the procedure and I'm definitely one of them.

  • Hi mckin

Im sorry it was so painful for you-some ladies definitely feel it more than others. I haven’t this treatment so can’t comment. The results will be analysed but hopefully all you’ll need is a test of cure smear in 6 months.

  • I got the results in the post a couple of days ago saying my leep biopsy showed no CIN but still HPV virus and now they are going to have another meeting to discuss this as my smear showed CIN 1 low dyskaryosis and my leep biopsy showed no CIN. But I still have HPV so now I'm really confused by all this. So I will have to wait now for the results of this meeting,

  • Hi there mckin123,

Hope you are well !! I have just been reading your previous posts and was wondering how it all went. I have been told I have hpv and low grade dyskaryodis too. I was told I had hpv last year but no abnormal cell but this year I have !! I'm now awaiting a colposcopy to see what's happening. I'm hoping everything has cleared up for you

  • Thank you for asking. I had a telephone consultation with a consultant, who said I could have 3 options, cauterisation, another leep, or a hysterectomy. Hysterectomy seems very drastic and I didn't want to commit to anything at that moment so we have agreed that I have another appointment in October 2023 for another Colposcopy and Cervical smear. If it comes back again HPV with low grade dyskaryosis then I will have to make a decision. My body does not want to shift this HPV and even after having a leep procedure I still have it. Also I feel because of my age the consultant is saying I will be discharged after 65. Surely this can't be the case if I have a history of HPV. Seems very unfair.

  • Oh no ! I'm sorry to hear you're still suffering with it. I'm sure they wouldnt discharge you considering your history and yes I agree a hysterectomy is drastic and should be a last resort. I have been reading lots about it today after having the same results myself, there does seem to be ever such a lot of women out there who are still hpv positive after 5 years. Only having the bombshell dropped today my own head is in a bit of a tiz but I have found comfort in knowing I am not alone. I do hope all stays well with you, and wish you the best of luck x
