I had an ultrasound last June as nipple inverted and pain got told nothing to worry about as I am 55 and had my menopause and put it down to blocked nipple ducts ... fast forward to two months after started with what I thought some kind of infection then put on antibiotics got referred again to 2 week referral then just before Christmas diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic cancer no cure just can be managed ...so follow your instincts and push for further tests wish I had but of course the no worry diagnosis put me on the wrong path.

I firstly had an examination then an ultrasound...the start of cancer cells must have been behind my nipple so not detected with the radiographer I wish I would have gone straight back to the doctors so seriously if any concerns in the future go straight back to the doctors asap I also had a mammogram 11 months before my diagnosis and showed nothing xxx

I was told it was duct ectasia an age related problem xx

Hi Emma,

I think it depends what they thought they saw. I'm having an ultrasound on Thursday and have been told if it's fluid filled it will be diagnosed as a cyst there and then if it's solid a biopsy will be taken even if it looks benign.

This all sounds like good news. The reason for your return ultrasound appointment is to check whether or not there have been any further changes. .It is good news that all seemed benign yesterday, but, as Paulaj's post shows, things can be missed. Your surgeon is being ultra cautious by bringing you back to ensure that this doesn't hapen.

It is a pity that a biopsy cannot be done when your lump is behind the nipple. There are other people who have been in a similar position, have had surgery and got a benign diagnosis after several tests. See the posts from Karen1971.

Ah sorry Emma I didn't read the part about not being able to do a biopsy. In that case it all sounds really positive and they are being cautious with you.
