Child swollen lymph nodes

Hey guys,

first time I've ever posted but looking for reassurance.

My 7 year old daughter has had pretty big lymph nodes in her neck on one side and behind her ear for over 6 months now. I took her to the doctors last year and they said to keep an eye on it. We went back today as the neck one is now pretty big and I got a call tonight to say they are referring her to the hosp with the two week urgency as a possible suspected cancer. Obviously been a nervous wreck since. The bloods were fine but she said this doesn't count for much.

Apart from tummy pain she doesn't have any other symptoms, no sweats, no fevers, really well and healthy, no tired.

the only thing that worries me is my husbands mother had Hodgkin's lymphoma at 13 and 22. The first time the only symptom she had was a lump in her neck. Naturally it's something that concerns me.

just wanted to get some reassurance. Anyone who's gone through the same, is there a high chance it could be nothing? I've felt sick all night :( xx

  • Hi Charliei17

I have a similar story. My little boy is 7 now however, when he was about 3 I noticed the lymph nodes to the right side of his neck were enlarged. I couldn't take my eyes off his neck and felt sick every time I saw the lumps. I was convinced something was wrong and took him to the GP twice. They didn't seem concerned. After what felt like ages he was finally sent for bloods and review. He was absolutely fine. He just had swollen lymph nodes. The consultant said a lot of children have them. They will go down over time. Fast forward almost 5 years and he still has swollen lymph nodes.

You've done the right thing getting it checked out and it's good your GP isn't ignoring it however, try not to worry too much (easier said than done).

  • Thank you sooo much for this it's made me feel a lot better! I know I shouldn't but obviously google has made me feel sick! Xxx

  • Oh Google is the absolute worst. A pain to your leg or a twitch to your eye- Google will tell you you have cancer. I still can't stop myself from googling symptoms though.

I'm glad I could make you feel a little better. Your little girl sounds very well. You're being a good mum and getting it checked out.
Please let me know how you get on xxx
