Breast pain

Hello,

Not sure where to start but my anxiety is so high I feel writing things down may elevate some fears until I have my drs appointment.

I noticed a lump in my right breast on the right side quite deep down. It was a few weeks ago now and was maybe a week before my period.

I made a telephone appointment with the drs and that same day they offered me a face to face due to the nature of what it was, unfortunately I was at work all day and had to rearrange. They told me to ring up and make another appointment the next day which I did. They then could only offer a face to fave a week later which was Wednesday just gone, however I got covid and had to rearrange to this Wednesday coming.

Since finishing my period I believe the lump has reduced (I'm trying to feel for it less as I think I'm causing myself pain feeling and checking several times a day). I have since noticed (last couple of days) a pain in my right breast, a dull ache that comes and goes. I haven't needed pain relief but I very aware of the pain and its made me very fearful.

My right breast has always been bigger and I have put on weight, maybe an ill fitting bra? Maybe a pulled muscle from my right arm that radiates to my breast? I really don't know and my searching on Google is really not helping. I do believe its tender and never noticed it like this before. The anxiety is literally affecting my day to day living, whisky waiting for my gp appointment, and then the potential other referrals.

  • Hi Ljmile,

I have been reading on this forum for a few days but decided to post as your situation sounds similar to mine! A week before my period was due I found a hard area in my left breast that felt similar to when I had a blocked duct when I was breastfeeding but I haven't done for over 2years! Over a few days it then turned into a lump. I contacted the gp and as I had a slightly raised temperature she wouldn't see me until after a negative PCR, which took ages to come back. When I saw her last week she could feel the lump and my temperature was still raised so I was given antibiotics in case of infection/mastitis. I have finished those and the lump is still there. The lump has possibly reduced and does seem to if I apply heat to the area, but I have since found another one in a different area of the same breast! My anxiety is very high and I keep thinking the worst! I lost my Mum to cancer 2 years ago (not breast) and I also have a young child. I have always been anxious anyway but this is on my mind constantly! I have to speak to the GP again tomorrow and she will likely refer me to the breast clinic as it is still there. I am dreading it all! I also think I have made it worse pain wise as I keep touching it! It was painful during my period but less so now! My GP did think it's likely to be a cyst or fibroadenoma by the feel of it, but she didn't actually feel the other lump as I found that after, so I can't help but think the worst! I just hope it's hormonal or something. I also had the covid booster a couple of weeks before it started so wonder if that could be linked but no idea! The other jabs did mess with my hormones and periods were affected so I really hope it's something like that. I am here if you ever want to chat x

  • Hi Mrs RL

I'm sorry to hear of your anxieties and symptoms you're going through. I do feel it's good to share how you are feeling and know you aren't alone in your thoughts and the symptoms you have are shared so with many of us.

Hope your GP app goes okay tomorrow? It is always very worrying when first line treatment a Dr gives you doesn't appear to solve the issue but it is good that you're going back to get it checked. I'm sorry to hear of your mum, my dad's anxieties raised so much when he lost his dad to cancer, I think some of them anxiety about cancer rubbed onto me. It's a very natural feeling to have when a loss is so personal to you.

I felt like I made the pain worse by constantly checking. Weirdly i have felt a bit better today since sharing my thoughts, kept myself distracted, especially when I'm back at work tomorrow after having 2 weeks off!

The covid jab raised my lymph nodes which is natural. I'm unsure about how it may affect your cycle though.

Hope you are feeling better this evening x

  • Hi again!

Good luck with your appointment today. Let us know how you get on.

I had a nightmare with my GP surgery yesterday and after sitting on the phone in a queue for well over an hour was answered by a rude receptionist who said no appointments and to call back today. They only do on the day appointments now, which seems crazy to me when the GP wants a follow up. I have managed to get a call back for this morning so I am waiting for that now. I think she will refer me to the clinic.

Thank you. I have always been anxious but am definitely worse since losing my Mum, especially where health is concerned. I definitely made it worse and sore by constantly checking!

I have seen a few people with affected cycles after their covid jab, it definitely seemed to mess with my hormones a few weeks after. I guess we don't really know the long term affects of it and it seemed strange I had these issues a couple of weeks later, but it might be a coincidence. I did see someone say they were told appointments at the breast clinic had increased since having it though so maybe there is a link.

How are you feeling now? I am quite anxious but trying to work through it as making myself feel ill and I really hope it's over nothing too.

    Keep us updated x
