Should I be worried? Repeat ca125 after mri

2 years my gynae found an ovary cyst when I miscarried, they decided to leave it and just keep and eye on it as it wasn't causing any pain. That was until sept last year when we got referred to ferility now they've decided they are going  to remove it.

However, I had multiple bloods done first week Dec, 2 weeks later I got a letter from gynae consultant saying they were sending me for an MRI as my tumour markers were elevated  but not worringly so (which they'd never been before). I went for the MRi on 21st Dec and this morning got a letter asking for repeat ca125 bloods to be done first week of February (explicitly stating it must be then), I've not heard anything about MRI results. I'm going to ring his secretary on Monday but should I be worried? Do you think they saw something on the MRI or just seeing if the markers have decreased? 6 weeks after MRI for more bloods seems like a long time span if there is something wrong.

  • Hi Ally89,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand your worries and questions, although it's hard to suggest what the reasons might be for them asking for repeat tests. You mention that you're calling the secretary today, so hopefully they can shed some light on this for you - it will only be your doctor/specialist and their team who can advise, so do try to get some questions answered if you can.

I hope that the next appointment comes around soon for you and that it's not too long before you get the answers you need - I know the waiting and uncertainty is always difficult.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
