Awaiting a urgent biopsy appt

Been having lots of symptoms but mainly continuous vaginal bleeding, clots, pain, bloating.

Dr referred to gynae. finally after 5 months wait had a tel consultation now been referred for an urgent biopsy. It's been over 3 weeks still no appt. Rang to chase and have been told I'm on the waiting list and an appt will be sent as soon as possible :(

Starting to get freaked out now. Got my mum through endometrial cancer 3 years ago & my mind keeps thinking I have the same.

Anyone in similar situation or has been?

  • Hi mazywazy,

I'm glad to hear things are now moving a little in terms of appointments, but it sounds like you've had a really long wait and I can imagine the continued wait for the biopsy must be difficult and frustrating. I'm not sure if you were given a timescale for when you should expect to hear regarding the appointment, but there's certainly no harm in calling to check, and if you do this again you can ask for an indication of potential wait times.

I'm sure there will be many others here in a similar situation, so hopefully you'll receive further replies soon.

I also hope it's not too much longer for you to wait and that you get the information you need soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Thanks Ben.

    I'm still waiting :(

My dad recently went through lung cancer surgery amd has been in recovery but now we found a lump in his Breast. He's been urgently for a Breast scan now. It's throw me completely off :(

  • Hi Mazywazy,

Yes. I had a similar experience. March 2021 I saw my GP n was told I would receive an appointment letter to see the specialist n have an ultrasond scan. I waited for months but no letter. .....long story. In the end I had to go to a private hospital for a scan n seeing a specialist. That was October n it turned out I had stage 2 endometrial cancer.

Your case might be different. But i would suggest that you try to chase after your referral or go private if possible.

    Best wishes,

    Chui

  • Hi Chui,

Thankyou for your advice. Unfortunately not in a position to go private :(

Luck would have it I was called in after a consultation cancellation today. Just had the biopsy done. Although the consultant believe it is more a hormonal issue than it being cancer as he didbnot see anything untowrads.

However he has sent of urgent results so left me a little bit confused. Results will be about 2 weeks so waiting game continues.

Hope you have had the treatment and are recovering well.

    Best Wishes,

    Mazywazy

  • Hi hope you hear soon. I know the feeling, awaiting biopsy results myself. Had a hyperscopy and fibroid, polyps removed. They said my womb thickness was 11.3 not sure if that's normal or not. Like you had bleeding. I'm postmenopausal. Hope you hear soon.

  • Hi Lindyloo

They said my womb size was 11.4mm which he said was enlarged. I didn't pay much attention to the note he gave me yesterday but today I found it in my bag & read it. It says I have something called diffuse adenomyosis. Of course I googled it and first thing it's a precursor to endometrial cancer  I guess that explains why he did a biopsy.

I'm feeling totally wrecked today. The pain i'm feeling today has kept me in bed all day. I didn't think it would be like this as yesterday after the procedure i didn't feel that bad. Back and stomach feel so sore and I'm very shaky :(

Mentally im freaking out knowing my mum had the same symptoms. 2 week wait will be agony.

  • I went to my dentist 19/1/22, on 2/2 i had an appointment at the oral cancer department. Tomorrow i will have a biopsy.

Im confused, when i went for my appt i was greeted by 3 nurses, the Dr called me in as i walked past her office. I was sent for an xray and told not to worry/nothingwas found. It felt like the oral department was totally empty and staff were pleased to have something to do.

Im not sure whats worse, the waiting for an appt or being rushed through the system.  I cant say dont worry because i think we all do.  I have a phobia about hospitals and this appt sends my stress level through the roof.

What i can say is the staff were very calm,  proffesional and reassuring.  Possibly you can contact the hospital, explain how stressed you are and can you put your name down for any cancellation appts or be seen sooner.

  • I know it's hard. Just keep on top of your pain killers and try as much as you can to rest.  Sending my best wishes. Message anytime.

  • Hi Embroidt,

Glad you got seen so quickly although it must have felt nerve wrecking. Good luck with the biopsy.  Hope you get a quick turn around on results also.

  • Thanks Lindyloo. I'm making sure I'm taking painkillers on time. How you holding up? Hope your keeping occupied.

    Likewise message anytime.
