Breast pain/lump and armpit pain

Hi,

I'm 43. I am perimenopausal and well on my way, so I take HRT. In April last year, I found a lump in my left breast next to the nipple, swollen breast and achy swollen armpit. I was referred and given a mammogram which showed nothing but fibrous changes. Over the course of 9 months, I have noticed that at certain points in the calendar, symptoms seem to increase 10 fold in the lead up to a bleed and die down again but not disappear. Symptoms have progressed over this time. Since Nov I have experienced burning or tickling sensation in the nipple,  tender areas in the breast,  achy and swollen shoulder blade and thickening/swelling all along the chest wall into the armpit, which always feels bruised. I started bleeding 5 days ago and the burning sensation has dissipated but pain has increased elsewhere, in particular the left side of the breast on the rib wall? If that makes any sense? I am having to use painkillers so I can sleep better at night. Everytime I roll over, the side of the breast hurts. I went to the doctor's today who has referred me again after feeling a lump and thickening where it hurts me the most. Sorry to waffle on, I'm a bit anxious about it all. It is hard to tell if it is all hormonal when the problems don't completely go away.

  • Hello Anxiousbunny78,

You're not waffling at all and it's normal to be feeling anxious at the moment. You've done the right thing in going to the doctor's and it's good that they have referred you again after feeling the lump and thickening.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello!

I've just come across your post as I have been experiencing similar symptoms to you and was wondering how you've got on?

I've just turned 30 but noticed a small pea sized lump in my armpit, went to the GP who found two more lumps in my boob and has urgently referred me to the breast clinic. I also have shoulder blade pain and my boob pain gets awful when I'm due on my period.

I'm trying not to worry but my nan passed away from BC 18 years ago and I'm worried it's something bad.

    Thanks for reading
