Suspicious cervical lesion age 24

Hi so since I was 18 Iv had bad bleeding sometimes bleeding for 3 weeks at a time but I suffer from an anxiety disorder so struggle to go anywhere and when I did go once they wouldn't give me a smear because I was too young. So when I was 22 I paid for a private hpv test to do at home that came back positive high risk kind. Still to anxious to go to the doctors so I left it. Now I'm 24 symptoms have got worse bleeding constantly lower pelvic pain and pain in my legs so I went to A&E they said I have a suspicious lesion on my cervix about 2cm big so they referred me for an urgent appointment. Iv got my appointment for 8 days later but it's not for a colposcopy it's to see the leading gynaecologist at the hospital for an exam. Biopsy and scan. Does this mean it's more serious if they have booked me in like that instead. Just worried thank you

  • Hi Courtney

i wouldn’t read anything into the fact that the appointment has been made like this. My first appointment was also with the lead gynaecologist, but it could equally have been with any of the other gynaecologists in the team. The important thing is to go to the appointment so you can be examined,

Any suspicious lesion needs to be investigated, and it is likely at this appointment that the gynaecologist will examine you and take a biopsy. This is then sent for analysis, and you will need to wait for the results. Have you already got an appointment for a scan? This would be a different department, and not done by the gynaecologist if it is an mri or ct scan. All the results are looked at by a team of specialists(called a multi disciplinary team meeting) to determine the next course of action.

You don’t have too long to wait for your appointment, so this is a good thing. The sooner you are seen, the sooner you will have answers. x
