Enlarged Ovaries - Cancer? I’m terrified!

Hello, I am a 22 year old female. I had an ultrasound yesterday that showed that both of my ovaries were enlarged, with no cysts except for a 1cm cyst on my left ovary that was leaking bloody fluid.

I have to go back to be rescanned in 6 weeks (I don't know why) and I'm very stressed about it. Why do I need to go back? I have never had to be rescanned for a cyst before.

My periods have recently changed to being abnormally long and painful, which I mentioned.

Can anyone relate with a similar experience or offer any insight in to the process of being rescanned or why my ovaries may be enlarged? I don't think I can wait 6 weeks!

Thank you.

  • Hello yxnglia,

It sounds like they have asked you to be rescanned in six weeks so that they can keep a close eye and monitor your ovaries and make sure that the cyst doesn't change or grow too much. It's good also that you have mentioned that your periods have changed to being abnormally long and painful as this is also something they will want to take note of.

I hope that you will hear from other members of the forum who have been through a similar process of being rescanned and have also been told their ovaries were enlarged. Even though it's really stressful to have to wait six weeks, it's good that they are monitoring the situation closely and rescanning you in a few weeks.

Everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern,

    Best wishes,

  • Hello,

Thank you for your response. They have now sent me a letter saying that they want me rescanned in 12 days instead of 6 weeks which has made me even more concerned. I am lying awake at night thinking about it.

  • I had lots of scans after my ovarian cysts were found, including MRI, Ultrasound and Ct. They check to see if there's any change. I have just had my cysts removed as lm post menopausal and they were solid no signs of fluid.
Try not to be to anxious and relax you will soon have your answers

    take care
