Worried

I have suffered with continuous diarrhoea for 5 months where I have taken Imodium and then it starts again. I have a small amount of blood on the toilet paper. So yesterday I went to see my gp who did a full examination and asked I do a stool sample and said I would recieve a second kit in the post. I don't have any pain just the need to go to the toilet but I'm so worried it could be biwel cancer.

  • Hello fewtrell12 and welcome to Cancer Chat,

You've taken the right steps in going to see the GP for a full examination. I can imagine it is a really stressful time for you at the moment as you are waiting for this second kit to arrive and for the results to come through. All you can do for now though is take one day at a time and wait and see what the GP says once they have had all the results from the tests they ordered.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Not quite the same symptoms but I too had experienced not what I'd usually expect going to the toilet so I rang up the doctor and also got a stool sample kit.

I was right to do so; they did find blood that shouldn't be there and my doctor had me off for an endoscopy within 2 weeks. I'm about to have my last test, a CT scan, following the endoscopy because they did find polyps one of which wag

You've done the right thing, I obviously hoped I'd walk out of the endoscopy and it was nothing however now knowing that there is something they can treat also helps. It could literally be anything before the right tests are carried out, Google will not help you here.

I didn't tell my partner I was getting a stool test, didn't want to worry him. Hindsight has been actually that just made it worse so I'd probably tell my nearest and dearest if I was approaching this again.

Hope it goes well for you x
