Post menopause ovarian cyst

Hi

I'm 57 and have had some spotting on and off- got referred under the 2 weeks urgent referral programme.
They found a cyst on my ovary but I completely went blank with panic and didn't ask the size. I've had bloods done and another womb sample cell test. The Gyne said don't worry we will check it again in 3-6 months but of course I'm Googling all day and realise how potentially serious it can be post menopause and how difficult it is to diagnose what it contains.. one report said it should always be removed.. I'm so anxious can't eat with worry and not sure I felt my gyne gave me enough information. Has anyone had anything similar?

  • Hello Bibi-64

I'm sorry to hear that you've been experiencing some post-menopausal bleeding and that as a result of some further investigations an ovarian cyst was found. It's natural that you're feeling anxious about things. Many people describe going into a tailspin when they're given test results by a Dr but try to hold on to the fact that your specialist didn't have any immediate cause for concern. It's also a good idea to avoid searching Google. There is a lot of outdated and inaccurate information available on the internet and you're not likely to find any firm answers about your situation but you most certainly will be left feeling more anxious.

If you're feeling particularly worried and want more information then you could contact the Consultant's secretary or alternatively, your GP should have had an update on your results so you could give them a call for more information.

If you'd like to chat with one of our team of nurses for some support and information you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and reassurance that they can.

I do hope that you have some news soon.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
