Anxious about breast clinic referral

Hi. I have always suffered with anxiety about dying from being a young age and on and off have had anti depressants and counselling.  After Covid booster I noticed a lump under my armpit and generally my left side near breast and under arm feeling fatty/bigger. As it didn't go down I went to my GP yesterday. Whilst saying think nothing to worry about as my breasts feel generally be lumpy and lump under armpit is soft she referred me to breast clinic. I have had some stiffness to my arm and shoulder blade and generally all my left side just doesn't feel the same. I am now absolutely petrified that not only do I have cancer but it's spread and ill be told I only have weeks or months to live. I know I shouldn't be but I can't stop googling and each time it says cancer spread and terminal. I just wanted to say it out loud as I was only referred yesterday and so likely to be waiting a while yet.

    Hi LinsP,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

You should normally be seen at the breast clinic within 2 weeks from referral, although this can take a little longer in some areas where Covid takes priority. I am not a doctor. However, I know that many ladies have reported changes under their arms after having had the Covid vaccine. Only one person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis. It is reassuring to hear that your GP doesn't see anything untoward.

Our imaginations often play havoc at times such as this and it leads us to al sorts of dark places. Fortunately, this seldom happens. Breast cancer is one of the most treatable types of cancer nowadays. I myself have had 2 bouts in the past 12 years, but I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.We always advise people to steer clear of consulting 'Dr Google' at this stage, as this will really scare the socks off of you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
