Indeterminate breast calcifications

Hi, has anyone else had this issue?  I went into breast clinic with another lump (I've had numerous fluid filled cysts over the last four years).  That was all fine but they flagged up calcifications on the other side.  I was really shocked.  I've got a biopsy next week and I'm in that horrible inbetween place of not knowing and worrying.  Is this likely to be DCIS?  Thanks x

  • Hi Linze.

I was popping back on the thread tonight just to see how everyone is doing and ask a question and I saw your post.  So thrilled for you, the relief must be immense.  Wonderful news. x

  • Thank you Mary,

    It is immense!

When is your MRI? I hope that you can feel positive about your plan going forward, and also gain that same sense of relief when you are out the other side of this!
I will keep checking back on here to see how you're all doing.

Take care and stay positive:) xxx

  • Thanks Linze.  MRI hasn't been mentioned and is not part of my treatment plan ....  yet!  I have lumpectomy next Friday (11th).  Back and forwards to appointments putting magseeds in and radioactive marker the day before surgery not to mention Covid tests and isolating. It will be quite a week!

I'm still very worried that my post op biopsies will show its worse as can so often happen.  They keep saying this is so tiny and so early but they can't really say for sure can they until after surgery and all results and staging is in, so it feels like empty reassurance!

I've just been reading up on oncotype testing and want it done afterwards.  They send a sample to America to genetic test risk for later spread and whether chemo will be beneficial even for early cancers.   No-one in clinic has mentioned it yet but it's my next question!    What a journey this is.

I couldn't be more delighted for your result, well done x

  • Wow - that does sound like a very hectic week ahead for you Mary.

I hope everything goes well and you can feel like that's one less hurdle to get over when the op is done. You've got this - one step at a time.

Take care and look after yourself x

  • Thank you so much.  I need to reign myself in a bit and take this one step at a time!  Sending all best wishes, thoughts and prayers back xx

  • Oh Mary, that sound like such a lot to prepare yourself for!

Oh sorry, I think I got confused with Vicki having an MRI.
Try not to spiral and think things will get worse. This is probably just anxiety trying to give you something else to think about, as you have so much ahead of you!

My friend, 41, is just coming out the other side of breast cancer. She found a lump, had a biopsy, then had a lumpectomy, followed by chemo and now she's part way through radio. Her post op diagnosis was the same as the initial one from her biopsy. Her lymph's were clear, and no spread. Hers was big enough to have felt, and it was still contained. So yours being so small is very positive.
Can you speak to your consultant about your concerns? Or even a trusted GP?

I think it's only natural to feel like this until you know the full picture. But the technology they use is so advanced now. Just focus on a time frame, say a month from now. Just think to yourself - it will all be done by then, you'll have had your op, they results from it should be back, and you can know then that it's 100% gone! Then you can breath a sigh of relief and continue to live your life.

    You've got this! Xxx

  • Thanks Linze.  I had a call from the radiographer this morning and she told me that when they put the magseed in yesterday morning ready for surgery next week they've spotted more calcifications in a different area and they are postponing my surgery.  GUTTED!

She said it's either benign or DCIS.  Told me they expected my other calcs to be DCIS and they weren't expecting the tiny invasive.  (Not very reassuring).  She also said they are being extra cautious as they don't want any other surprises. They can't do my op until they know exactly what this is so ANOTHER biopsy early on Tuesday.  They will fast track results.

I've lost trust in them as it's been missed.  I've had loads of mammograms.  She said my breasts are still so dense and active even though I'm 54 so it's my fault it seems that they didn't spot them earlier!!

I feel like I'm back at square 1!  Dreading next week!

Your message was very uplifting, thanks a lot. x

  • Oh Mary I'm sorry to hear this, you must be devastated.

Wish I had some words of wisdom for you. I really hope that you aren’t faced with any more unexpected hurdles and that this new area of calcification is benign.

Hope Tuesday goes OK and you get the results quickly so you know what's what and can move forward with your treatment plan.

    Thinking of you x

  • Oh Mary!

You poor thing! I can't believe you're back to where you started! So they picked it up on the mammogram while putting on the magseeds?! That's crazy they didn't see them before! I hope you get these results quickly and get on with your op. Another biopsy too! That's tough. But think of it as they're being cautious and making sure they have everything!

I know it's near impossible, but try to remain calm while you're waiting. There must be someone you can talk things through with about all this?? To get some reassurance while you're waiting?!

This really sucks! But you will get there and out the other side before you know it.

Sending lots of love and prayers your way. Xxx
