Testing for BIA-ALCL

Hi,

So December 2020 I went to my doctors with a lump on my breast they put it down to implant slipping and told me not worry. June 2021 I went back as it got bigger and hurt ALOT. Finally got reffered to the brest clinic where.i learnt of ALCL and found out the implants I had fitted were taken off the market in July 2019 due to links with cancer. And honestly I feel let down. Why wasn't I made aware that the implants I had in were taken off the market! Had surgery on the 23rd of December for the implants to be removed and scar tissue and capsules sent to pathology for testing. The waiting is the worse part. Phoned the breast clinic they can not tell me anything until they've had the MDT meeting which should be on Thursday I'm feeling all sort of emotions and honestly I feel so alone what even is a MDT meeting.. I just feel scared and alone at this point in my life and also feel let down.

  • Hi Syd1234,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of your situation and I can imagine this must have been disheartening to hear, and no doubt is is causing some worry.

An MDT meeting is a multi-disciplinary team meeting - essentially it's a group of healthcare professionals each with their relevant expertise in the area, where cases are discussed and any next steps, if needed, are agreed.

You mention that the meeting is today, so I hope that it won't be too long now until you find out the information you need. I know that the waiting is never easy.

We're always here for support on the forum if ever you need it.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
