Abnormal bleeding and raised ca125

Hi guys!

Im so worried right now, and wondered if anyone has found themselves in a similar position?

im 39 with 4 lovely kiddies.
Below are my symptoms:

In the past 5 months I've had x3 occasions of spotting after sex (always about 12 hours later)

I've just finished a vaginal bleed that lasted 2 weeks. Yeah
(4 days of which I believe was my period, the rest was light bleeding and spotting)

Raised ca125

My GP has referred me on the 2 week pathway for colposcopy because of the bleeding after sex, and has told me that the gynaecology team at colposcopy will arrange any further tests regarding the abnormal bleeding and raised ca125. Does anyone knowing that is true? I expected the GP to do a seierate referal for those?!

but anyway, given the 4 separate symptoms, I'm fully expecting a cancer diagnosis and I'm so frightened. I'm barely eating or sleeping. Just trying to fake a smile for my kids, but inside I'm crying.
I don't know how to keep putting one foot infront of the other, and no idea how I'm gonna get through the next two weeks.

my husband has been lovely, but he is back to work tomorrow so I'll be all alone and overthinking things.

I'm not sure what I'm hoping for by posting this here. I guess reassurance....or friendships. I just want to feel less alone. ‍♀️

Has anyone else had abnormal bleeding and raised ca125?

Or is anyone else on their 2 week wait and have any advice on how to cope?

  • Seriously, the communication you have had with your gynae team has been fantastic!

I think the rising ca125 with clear scans has made me really paranoid that there may be something sinister going on elsewhere in my body, so I've been checking myself like a crazy person. As a result, I now have an appointment with my GP this afternoon to get some breast indentations checked out. Hopefully they're just from normal aging and weight loss/gain stuff, but the fear is real cos of these blood results! I'm hoping that when I'm there, she may have access to my results from the hospital and I might finally be able to find out my levels from my last blood test!

My next blood test is in 2 days. Unfortunately I get it done at the hospital rather than the GP, and last time it took 14 days til I got a letter from the consultant confirming that my levels were "again, slightly raised".

EDIT TO ADD, my gp has let me know that my most recent CA-125 from the hospital at the end of January was 90.
That means it jumped from 56 to 90 in just 3 weeks!
(I was on my period though, so hoping that may be the reason for such a big jump.) but if it's rising that fast, I dread to know what it's gonna be this week!

  • Arghhhh - why do I always find getting into this website so tricky?!  Always such a faff - suspect it is work firewalls etc.

Anyhow - I AM FINE!!!  The op went well and the Doctor said that they had 3 of them have a look while they were in there and they could see nothing of concern.  They took biopsies from 2 areas and also a wash out to culture.

ALL came back clear so I am officially discharged from the cancer team and back under GP care.  That is amazing but hasn't sunk in.

Now - what I want to know is what your latest score ended up being?

I need to book an appt to talk to my GP about what next because my level was still rising at the last check but that is a problem for another day.....Oh that on my smear on Friday.  That better bloody not come back funny!!

    Tell me your news.  xx

  • Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to reply, life has been manic and I completely forgot! But I'm so glad to hear you got the all clear! So what is the plan of attack regarding the rising CA125? You must be so relieved though!

So I've been on a bit of a rollercoaster ride with all of this too. I did a 7 day cleanse diet for 8 days before my blood test to recheck my ca125, and also made sure to arrange it for a time when I was neither ovulating nor on my period, and guess what! My levels came down to 25!!!!
Of course, it took them 2 weeks to tell me! I eventually had to speak to my GP to get my results, but woohoo!!

Unfortunately though, I couldn't celebrate too much, cos i was on a 2 week referral for the breast clinic to get some breast indentations checked out. I'd been convinced I had breast cancer and that was why my ca125 was raised.
Anyway, I had a mammogram and ultrasound and it was all clear, but the consultant wants to see me again in 3 months just to be sure. (Yeah, that's a bit unsettling, clear scans but not discharged once again!)

I hope we can both get off this rollercoaster real soon. It's certainly dragging out, but I think we're both getting there!
