Result concern

I have recently had a LETZ procedure due to having positive hpv and cin 3. I was told all ok and would need a follow up in 6 months.  Two weeks later I received a letter from the consultant  saying there will be a delay in me receiving the results,  as my results will need to be discussed at the colposcopy clinic the following week which is tomorrow.  Do I need to be worried, has anyone else had this before.

  • Hi Sillybilly

All results are discussed, so I would try not to be too concerned. When the lletz treatment is done, what is removed is sent to be analysed to ensure that the doctor got clear margins-ie removed all of the abnormal cells with the surrounding tissue being clear of abnormality. The results are discussed to determine whether any further treatment is required or confirm that nothing else is needed and the treatment has been successful, so that this can be confirmed to you. x

  • Hi thank for this.  But I had this procedure done about 15 yrs ago and just had an automatic 6 month follow up.  I never received a letter saying this would be discussed at that time.   Obviously this is a different trust but still concerned. I'm just hoping this is all positive and I'm worrying for nothing. X

  • Hi Sillybilly

Things have changed in the last 15 years with the screening programme, so things are done differently nowadays.

Hopefully everything goes well for you and your results are good. How things go from here will depend on the pathology results from the lletz. Just try to think positively, that you have had your screening and treatment and this is the best thing you can do. It is possible that you might need further treatment, but until you know, try not to worry too much. x
