                                l am so sorry to read your post and l can understand how frightening this is for your mother ,yourself and all the family,it comes as a real hammer blow to hear news like this, l.am no expert just someone who has faced his own struggles to overcome bowel cancer with spread to the liver,so please understand l write as a sufferer not a medical expert,hopefully one of the nurses will be along to answer your questions in detail.

                                                As you will be aware advanced means the initial cancer has spread to other sites within the body from the initial location.Pallative would suggest that surgical intervention is not an option at this time and treatment will consist of chemo/radiotherapy with the intention of slowing and controlling  the spread and hopefully shrinking existing tumours,with the aim of allowing the patient to have an acceptable extended life, l am aware of many on the site that have just that and hopefully some of them will pick up on your post and give you the benefit of their experience,

The main thing to remember is that nothing is written in stone and your Mum has every chance of responding well to the treatments she will be offered,they continue to progress each year. They say its not over until the fat lady sings,but who is to say that your Mum will not like me,join her in a duo on the stage of life,belting out a happy rendition to a future,
