Am I over thinking it could be cervical or vaginal cancer?

Hi all,

I have been back and forth for the last 4 years now with problems down below. I've had constant itching outside of my vagina which goes all the way to the back passage and really heavy discharge, I've gone between gynaecologists and dermatologists they can not find a thing wrong. In the last two years I've developed pain and bleeding during and after sex my gynaecologist said I had ectropian and gave me the mini pill and I had a scan privately that just showed a fibroid. I only stayed on the pill for a couple of months as it did not agree with me but seemed to help the bleeding. I get a lot of pelvic and lower back pain. I've recently been referred to the hospital due to the pain and bleeding and whenever I've had anyone look at my cervix they always say it appears raw. I was seen within two weeks but I was at the end of my period so I don't feel satisfied that the consultant could of give me a proper examination he said my cervix appears fine and there is no cancer (how can he tell by looking) how has every other dr said I have etropian or raw inflamed cervix he just put everything down to my fibroid and said I had some hymen tags. This was a few weeks back and I'm currently in agony with my lower back and the pain during intercourse is getting worse and my vagina after feels so heavy and swollen with shooting pains for days after, I just know something can't be right but I don't have an appointment now until April? Should I go back to the GP for what feels like the millionth time or am I over reacting? My last smear was done privately by a gynaecologist in feb which was clear but things just don't feel right everything feels worse.

  • As I noticed this is your first post with us I wanted to stop by to welcome you to the forum, ccgrant.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been feeling poorly for quite a while now and understandably concerned. I'm glad though that the last smear results came back fine.

If your symptoms persist perhaps it is a good idea to phone your GP and explain the situation. There could be a number of things that may be behind the discomfort, a lot of them have nothing to do with cancer but all the same, it's important to get a medical opinion so that at least you can get some relief.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that our team of nurses can be reached on this number 0808 800 4040 Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. if you feel like asking some questions.

I hope all turns out OK for you, ccgrant.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

I just wanted to drop you a message to see how you are? I have been searching online with similar symptoms and just wanted an update

I have had ongoing issues for months now. Lower back pain that feels raw and inflamed, lower right pelvic pain, inside my vagina feels sore, itchy and swollen. I have a lot of watery clear/milky discharge. I'm really worried something isn't right. It seems to flare every 6 weeks or so but this time it's been here for a month!

  • Hi littlemiss1982, I noticed you were hoping to get an update from ccgrant. They haven't returned to the forum since making this post back in January so there's a chance you may not hear back from them I'm afraid.

I really hope that won't be the case, but if you don't receive a reply you're welcome to reach out to some of our other members on more recent discussions about this topic via the 'search forum' option in the purple bar above. More active and on-going discussions improve your chances of getting a response, so do have a look around and see what you can find.

Any unusual or unexplained symptoms are always a worry but hopefully these are not a sign of anything sinister.

    Kind regards,
