Anxious wait to see GP- can breast dimpling be cellulite?

I currently have Covid so have had the 'luxury' of daytime baths instead of the usual rushed nightly bath with one of my two small people jumping in with me!
It was during one of these baths that I noticed that my left boob seems to have shrunk. I've not lost weight (gained sadly) but it does seem smaller. I'm very asymmetric anyway but it is now verging on ridiculous.
Anyway, I decided to check myself properly and noticed that upon lifting my arms, the shrunken left breast is dimpled, significantly. Not just one dent but all dimpled. (Yes I know I should know my body but I'm afraid I have neglected myself).
When googling, all pictures show one or two small dents which reassures me as I'm now thinking this must be some kind of cellulite?
Anyway, I did an econsult and offered to send pictures but the GP wants to see me once my Covid isolation is over so now I have to wait until next Thursday.
Do the cancer nurses allow you to post pictures here? If I blank out my nipples? I know it may not help as I'm guessing only the doctor can say it's nothing to worry about. Wish I hadn't noticed until after my isolation as now I keep checking!

  • Hello MB2022,

Welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear you are currently self-isolating because you have covid and I hope that your symptoms are mild and that you make a full recovery soon. At least there is the small comfort of one of these long day time baths you describe on your own!

It won't be long now until you see the GP once your isolation period ends and they will be in the best position to tell you what it might be. Try to resist the urge to check google in the meantime as this will only make you worry even more. The best thing to do while you are waiting to be seen is to distract yourself if you can, perhaps read a nice book in the bath or do whatever you think might take your mind off this constant worry.

I'm afraid we do not allow any photos of a medical nature to be posted here even if you were to blank out the nipples. As you rightly said, only the doctor will be able to say whether it's anything that requires further investigation. It's a pain you have to wait still until the end of your isolation to get some answers but it won't be long now and you will soon get some clarity and medical expertise on this.

Everything tightly crossed for you that it all turns out to be fine!

    Best wishes,

  • Just coming on to update. I had my GP appointment and she didn't like the look of it but said given the appearance, in her experience there would be a sizeable lump by now. So she said hopefully there's another explanation for it. I left with a referral on the 2 week wait cancer pathway, and got my appointment booked the following day. Not long to wait now. The letters says the appointment can take 4-5 hours and explains all the different procedures. Hoping not to need punch biopsies but guess I'll wait and see. Still can't feel a lump but it is looking very strange. We shall see.

  • Just to update...

Had my appointment at the breast clinic today.
Didn't need a mammogram; just a quick ultrasound and all looked healthy so was in and out. She said it's just one of those things but said it looks lumpy bumpy rather than tethered so not concerning. So I'm fine :-) Really sorry to anyone who doesn't get this outcome; my heart goes out to you. Take care x
