Mass found left breast. Waiting for breast clinic referral

New here so not sure what to expect! I was took into hospital with covid few days ago! Suspected blood clots! During the CT they came across a 30mm mass in my left breast! I was so shocked I never asked any questions just said ok and left as they were finally discharging me! I have had flickering pains in my breast and my armpit has been so itchy ? but there are no lumps! I'm waiting for my letter referal to the breast clinic ! I'm so scared of what to expect at the appointment! I obviously hope it's not what I'm thinking it is! I just can't sleep for worrying

  • Hi,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with Covid. However it may turn out that you've been fortunate as it has identified a mass that you were previously unaware of and now it will be fully investigated.

The waiting is the hardest part and our minds always focus in on the worst outcomes and make us sick with worry.  Please take comfort from the fact that only 1to2 people out of every 10 referrals to the breast clinic end up with a cancer diagnosis. The flickering pains you're experiencing may be a good sign because most cancers are painless.

I was referred to the breast clinic in October after finding lumps. Unfortunately after having mammogram scan + biopsies, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I'm currently on chemotherapy prior to surgery.

I hope everything goes ok for you and that you get some answers soon.

Please let me know how you get on.

Extending a big hug to you

    Lilyanne xx

  • Hi hope you are well ? Just wanted to let you know my referral came ! To cut a long story short ! I was taken into hospital ok the 1st Jan which was my dads birthday , the referall was made on the 7th which was the anniversary of my nans death and today is my grandads birthday who's also passed and my appointment came through! I hope it's not coincidence but all 3 dates of my family who aren't here is that a sign they are looking after me! ! Anyways I have my appointment this Thursday at 8pm the nurse said I'm booked for everything so I presume that means scans and a biopsy which I'm absolutely terrified of! I CD not stop shaking I'm so scared ! ‍♀️

  • Hold on in there Zoe. Try to keep your mind on the positive. Your appointment has come through quickley and on Thursday you will go through whatever tests you need to get some answers. I know this is a really scary time for you, our thoughts naturally always go straight to the worse case imaginable. Take it a step at a time. They're usually very supportive at the Breast Clinic. Try to focus on your appointment. Prepare some questions to ask your doctor. Remember at this stage , hopefully, it still might be something else xx

I'm Sending you a big hug and lots of love and positive vibes

    Lilyanne xx ♥️♥️

  • Hey lovely thank you so much for your kind wise words ! I don't think I can go through with it , I'm so scared I can't stop crying ! I know there are much stronger people out there and I sound so bad! But the biopsy is freaking me out so bad ! I really want a general but a local is being given ! I'm *** it xxx

  • Hi Zoe,

I wanted to offer some reassurance. I've had two biopsies and didn't feel either of them. You'll be given local anaesthetic and it's highly unlikely you'll feel anything more than a little pressure. I think the whole waiting side of things is the worst and you must be in shock after discovering this like you did but think of it as fortuitous as you may not have known for a long time. Just keep thinking of those loved ones looking down on you. You can do this, you really can.

    Big hugs

  • Thank you so much for your kind words, I'm just so so scared ! I'm so worried about the outcome, it is what it is ! But the biopsy thoight is making me so I'll I've got palpitations, nausea and migraine I'm in a right state crying so bad! I've had 4 babies aswell! I'm terrified of it! I wish I could have a general not local! xxx

  • I'd rather have a breast biopsy than go to the dentist! You don't even see anything as they'll ask you to turn away, and I didn't feel anything even after the local had worn off. I understand completely how you're feeling, my anxiety was through the roof and I cried too. It's completely normal but once you know what you're dealing with, the anxiety gets better. Your mind will be going to all kinds of dark places but you will rationalise everything when you know. Knowledge is power! You'll be reet, I promise you. Get Thursday out of the way and when you see how kind and reassuring everyone is you'll feel better.

    Best of luck xx

  • Thank you so so much I shall definitely try to take my mom did it today and tomorrow for sure ! I'm not too worried about what they find because I can't change anything depending on what it is! It's just this biopsy it's literally making me feel so ill! But thank you so much for your reassurance means so much!

  • Hi Zoe,

Please don't worry about the biopsy. I had 3 biopsies taken of my left breast and 1 biopsy of my lymph node. It wasn't painful at all as a local anesthetic was used first. My bruises made it look worse than it was

The Dr doing the biopsies didn't tell me they looked suspicious but I could see the screen and I could tell but the shape of them they were cancerous. It was also mildly fascinating watching the needle get the sample.

I got the news 2 weeks later that I have grade 3 invasive ductal cancer in 2 of my 3 lumps and the lymph node. An MRI also revealed that the lumps are connected by more cancerous tissue so all in all 10cm!

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow as I'm having my mastectomy and axillary clearance.

As you say it is what it is. You are a mum to 4. You are badass and you've got this

    Lou xx

    Ps I'm a mum to 4 too!

  • Hi lovely thank you so much for your reply? I've heard so much about the biopsy and it's making me so scared I can't stop crying and it's making my asthma so bad! Oh can you tell Tywyn are cancerous but looking then? What do they look like?  I'm awfully sorry to hear of your news, how inspirational you are sharing some of your experience! I hope your not feeling too unwell, I wish you all the luck tomorrow bless your heart!

xxx all my love and best wishes zoe xxxx

  • radiologyassistant.nl/.../ultrasound-of-the-breast

It was this page, you have to scroll down to the table which shows the different types. Please don't torture yourself with it though. I think for me because I was given no indication by the Dr who did the ultrasound and biopsies that they were suspicious I just wanted clarification in my own head.

To be perfectly honest, the moment my husband found the initial lump I knew deep down that it was going to cancer.

Talk to them tomorrow and explain that you are feeling anxious and nervous about the biopsy.

    I'll check in tomorrow xx

  • Thank you so much! Well I haven't got long to wait now to get it over with! My appointment is 8pm this evening so not long at all! Thank you so much for your support ! And good luck too for today xxxx

  • Hi Zoe, just checking in to see how you are. I'm back home from surgery and I'll check in later xx

  • Omg your back from surgery and your checking in to see how I am! That's the most thoughtful thing ever ! I hope the surgery went as well as can be and your not feeling too poorly after it! I wish you a speedy recovery! Im very anxious now as not many hours left to go! I've been told the biopsy is hurrednous bu another person and she said you bleed lots and could have stitches! I tried looking down the page for cancer examples of what it looks like but I couldn't find anything so googled it! I shall be looking at the screen tonight for sure ! Thank you again for your kind words and checking in ! Rest up!

    all my love zoe xxx

  • Hope all went went for you and you've had a big glass of something tonight. Xx
