Lymph node swollen 3 months

Hi all

I've already posted here about my swollen node in my neck. Ive got it since October and been to doctors a few times now. Ive had a blood test which came back all clear and the doc told me to just keep an eye on it but it doesn't seem right to me that I would have a lymph node swollen for this long with no explanation fron any doctor I've seen.

Just wondering if anyone has the same experiance or any advice for me. I'm just abit stuck right now and probably overthinking but I'm not sure.

Thanks

  • Hi,

I had one come up in my  neck 4 years ago and it's still there.  The doctor called it a shoddy lymph node.  He told me to keep an eye on it and if it becomes solid to go back.

Sometimes I can feel it, other days not.

    Hope that helps

  • Thanks for your reply. Thats comforting to know. Mine is always there so it doesnt dissapear and come back.

    where is yours situated?

  • Hi

my son who is 18 found a lump in December. He went to GP and had bloods. All normal.

when GP phoned him with blood tests he referred him to consult. We had a call within 48hrs and was seen straight away. They referred him for a Ultrasound and we waited a week.
we went on the 30th dec and he was found to have lumps in his lymph nodes on both sides of his neck and thyroid. The one we knew about isn't that bad but the constant said the other ones are more worrying.
They did a biopsy there and then and told him to go straight for a CT with contrast.
We are now on day 6 of waiting for the results and it's horrible waiting.

My guess is your GP doesn't think it's anything to worry about as they would have had you seen by now.
if you are still worried I would go and see another GP and say you want a second opinion.
MY son has been having night sweats so maybe that's why they think he could have HL.

I hope you manage to get some more advice and a second option hun.

  • Hi,

Mine is middle of neck, near ear.  My doctor sent referral to ENT.  I went privately as I was so worried.  He explained about lymph nodes and how they worked.  If you are concerned ask the doctor for a referral as peace of mind It's not wasting anyone's time, it's reassurance.

Let me know how you get on

  • Hi thanks for your reply and sorry to hear you and your son are going through that. I hope you get some good news soon.

I wonder why they even do bloods if that doesnt even indicate if its all clear very confusing. I'm on my 3rd referral now so makes me feel like i'm wasting their time but i'm a healthy 28 year old, exercise regulary with a good diet. Its just really hard to keep going back when they're telling me it's okay.

Thanks again and I really hope your son is okay. It must be so hard for you as his mother. Keep in touch on his progress xxx

  • Did you have any blood tests? Why did you get a referral? Is it because you pushed for it?

I may try private, do they refer to NHS? I've seen 3 GPs now who all seem to say it's nothing to worry about but I just need to peace of mind not a guess. Sorry for all the questions :)

  • Ask as many questions as you like.  No blood tests, my doctor just did the referral to ENT.  I went privately as I didn't want to wait 2 weeks.    I'm doing the same this time as I have a pain in my breast and armpit.  My doctor said the appointment would take 6 weeks.  As my husband has private health care I decided to do it through that, I have my appointment tomorrow.

I'm sure if they thought it needed any further investigation they would refer you.   At my referral I had no scans, the consultant just felt it.

  • Our GP said bloods were to check for infection. If they came back clear they would refer him straight away.
    maybe it's because he's only 18. I'm not sure.
he is normally fit and well with a good diet. He goes to the gym and doesn't really drink. He has been feeling tired and having horrible night sweats which I didn't know about. So they are also symptoms of HL.

it's all a bit confusing but they have protocols to follow and he is probably on the correct pathway for referral.
Silly as I would have thought any lump would need investigation.
We are very lucky that he has been seen so quickly and had all the correct tests. Maybe if they hadn't have found a loads of lumps on the other side of his neck then he wouldn't have had further tests. I think the very grumpy consultant was shocked at what he was seeing.
Hopefully we will get the results very soon and we can then deal With whatever we have or don't have to face.

I would just keep pushing for reassurance from your GP and get checked again. It's not wasting anyone's time to check when it's needed. So don't worry. That's what the health service is for hun.
    good luck hun.

  • Its awful how long the waiting lists are and how you're having to pay privately especially when the NHS should be there for us. I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow. Keep us updated :)

  • Thats strange as my GP said nothing to worry about if bloods are normal. So confusing. Its all a bit too much sometimes and even though they're doctors it seems like I'm being dismissed because of how fit and healthy I am.

I get tired easily anyway as I have an iron deficiancy so not sure I can mention that. Can I ask how bad his night sweats are? Just so I can keep an eye.

I'm glad you're getting sorted quickly and i really really hope everything is all clear for your son. Let us know about any updates :)
