Ovarian cancer - Fobbed off

Hey, I'm new here

So around 3 months ago I went to my GP to request getting my coil removed, the GP couldn't find the strings so I was referred for an ultrasound to make sure it was still in place, during the ultrasound the sonographer mentioned I had a dermoid cyst on my right ovary, thought nothing of it as I had one removed around 8 years ago on my left ovary. A few weeks later the GP called me to make an appointment to go in, while there she told me I had a cyst on my ovary that she wasn't worried about but the sonographer had written in the repost that I had a 3cm solid mass next to the cyst (this wasn't mentioned to me on the day of my ultrasound) so my GP requested a two week rushed appointment. I had a CA125 that came back within normal range.

The appointment was today, the gynaecologist said that because of my age she wasn't going to investigate cancer instead was going to get me booked in to remove my cyst which of course is non urgent and could take months.

I'm 35, I know I'm less at risk but to do zero investigations at all has really upset/worried me, I know Covid is playing havoc on staff levels but I feel like they've just fobbed me off.

I'm hoping to book a private ultrasound to see if I can actually get someone to tell me if I should be worried or not but I'm just wondering if anyone as had something similar and what steps you took.

thanks

Stacy

  • I had my ovarian cysts found last December during a colonoscopy, the gynaecology clinic was great and after scans l had my overies removed in October as l was on the oncology surgeons list Covid made no difference to the time frame. Surgery was a few weeks after being listed. My blood results were fine. I'm post menopausal and l had left sided pain  the cysts were solid and 6 cm and 4 cm so when offered removal l accepted, during surgery they found extensive adhesions that took 4 1/2 hrs to remove l think they probably caused some of the pain. My surgeon said that most surgeons would have bailed out and left the adhesions she's been great. Really pleased to say the biopsies were all benign.
I hope you have a similar outcome take care
