Nasal cancer

Hi...

5 days ago my nose felt uncomfortable so I had a look up it with the torch on my phone and noticed a big red mass on my septum.. I went to a+e this morning as advised by the dr (as they thought it could have been a septal heamatoma) but the hospital told me it wasn't and have referred me to ENT.

I asked what it looked like and I asked if it looked like cancer as I have a huge fear and they told me they can't tell me it's benign so now I'm completely out of my mind with worry thinking I've got cancer up my nose it's on the right side of my nose in my right nostril but my left ear feels like I have a shell on it all the time... does anyone have any advice?? I am so scared I'm only 32 and have a little boy who's 2 and autistic I'm terrified

  • Hello Claire0607

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found a  lump in your nose which has caused such concern. I think many of our members here will understand how difficult this period of waiting for appointments and diagnosis can be. The unknown can be a scary prospect to face and this is obviously where you find yourself at the moment.

Whilst the team in A&E were able to tell you if the lump was benign, they also weren't able to tell you if it's something to be particularly concerned about. Try to stay positive about whatever this may be until you're told otherwise. Hopefully, the ENT referral won't take long but you might want to give the department a call next week to check they've received your details and ask how long you may be waiting. It's possible that there may be some delays due to Covid but equally, they may have a cancellation spot that they're able to offer you.

In the meantime, if you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm (excluding bank holidays). I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support that they can.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
