Testicular Cancer Worries

Hi all, I hope you're well.

Just before Christmas I found a lump on my testicle. It's been there before and I had an ultrasound which showed up nothing. It's a small pea sized lump but it feels like it's attached to something else and my testicle/

6 years on and it's larger and is causing pain. I describe as almost 'when you need to adjust yourself with tight pants on' or muscular - ocassionally it's a dull ache. It seems to radiate into my upper thigh and lower back and an occasion pulsing in my lower abdomen (practically above the testicle) at times and I'm walking a little bit like John Wayne.

I tried to get a GP appointment but had a less than entertaining phone call with a Nurse Practitioner who asked a few questions then said oh we'll refer you over to be safe - and no other detail

My dad has testicular cancer and the mind does race. I've looked at the symptoms and I do have fatigue and loss of appetite (and I cannot get to sleep!) but I also recognise these are symptoms of anxiety.

I'm not sure what I'm asking to be honest - I've talked myself into it being a variocele and an epidymitis and I'm in the dark google it to hell and back until you get the answer you want phrase.

I guess advice on coping with the wait?

  • Hello HoweyouDoing

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found a testicular lump and that you're now waiting on an ultrasound. This period of waiting for appointments and information can be really difficult and it's unfortunate that you've found yourself stuck in the dark circle of Googling for information.

Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for your appointment but in the meantime, I'm going to tag in [@Josh_hereforyou]‍. Josh has been in your position of waiting for that scan. Unfortunately for him, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer but he is now out the other side of treatment and doing well. Hopefully, as I've tagged him in he will pop along to share any words of advice and support that he may have to help you cope with the waiting and uncertainty.

If you want to talk things through with someone you're welcome to call our team of nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm (excluding bank holidays). I'm sure they will be happy to offer any information and assurance that they can.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
