Waiting on diagnostic surgery

Hi there,

I (24F) am wondering if anyone can explain to me the process of diagnostic dermatology surgery? I had an ovarian dermoid cyst removed through keyhole surgery back in March. The scar in my belly button has been raised the entire time and has been bleeding since the start of October.

Last week I was referred to a dermatology department and wasn't told until I was at the appointment that I was in a cancer department and they believe that I might have either a keloid scar or some sort of carcinoma (they said the word very fast and I didn't catch exactly what was said) and that I'll need diagnostic surgery to be sure if it's cancer. I'm rather anxious and would love some more information about the process/recovery, thank you in advance!

  • I would ring the dermatology secretary and ask that they contact the dermatologist for you asking them to explain the results. They can write or phone you there's also a dermatology nurse that should be able to help. We need to understand our diagnosis for us to process what's happening, l hope this helps, take care

  • Thank you for reaching out!

Ive tried calling the hospital and they've been useless so far, I'll just have to keep trying lol. Thank you again for your help, take care and wishing you well!

  • You could try the waiting list for dermatology l know it's long here my friend went private in October, you can offer to take a cancellation at short notice. My friend is a nurse in the local dermatology clinics and she's said their waiting list are huge unfortunately. Have you managed to speak to the dermatology secretary, the gynaecology secretaries  were really helpful when l was waiting for my gynaecology procedure. They checked when my operation was due and were able to get me a date from the surgeon.
maybe leave it until next week when they will all be back at work then try again
