Anxious About 2 Week Referral

Hi guys, a little reassurance would be awesome. I'm a 49yo male. I've had the feeling of a lump in my throat for about 8 weeks now. I'm also finding it difficult to swallow and get food down. I've had Acid Reflux on/off for the past 10 years. The reflux is coming back up into my throat and sometimes burning it. I've been referred to an ENT clinic today with 2 week referral. She says she's doing it as I am so anxious and it's to put my mind at rest as it gould be Gerd. I've done the worst thing you can do by Dr Google and its got my brain mashed. I know it'll probably be after New Year when I get appt now and that's not helping. Symptoms are worse at times and really mild other times. I'm so anxious and worried. If there is anything you guys can help me with I'd be very appreciative. Thanks for reading and giving me your time.

Yours very sincerely

John

  • Hi Helen

  • Hi John, my husband has stage 4 lung cancer diagnosed 2017, the chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy have now caused mds which is a form of  chemo induced leukaemia.  I learned from the beginning that no matter how much you worry or stress the outcome will always be the same.  So all the worry in the world and it could be no you don't have cancer or all the worry in the world and yes there is something wrong.  So live each day in the present and not the future, too many health anxiety forum users will encourage you to fear the worst, think positively as if there is something wrong, God forbid, this is the only way to deal with it.  I hope all is clear and that you get through this anxious time hoping for the best outcome  for you all.  Best wishes for a better New year.  Carol

  • Hello Dor06,

Thank you very much for replying. First of all I'm sensing my sincere good wishes for yourself and your husband. Really hope you have better times ahead. Your right about worring and it'll be the same outcome whatever. I'm starting to just come to terms with it now and just simply wait until I get my appointment then deal with what comes after that. It is what it is like you say.

Sending my love and virtual hugs for you both.

    John

  • Hi John, when I was referred for similar symptoms about 7 years ago, in my late 30s I was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Oesophagitis. It's exacerbated by acid reflux and so I control that and feel a lot better, occasionally i take steroids. I know it's easy to focus on the worst-case scenarios, but there can be many other causes of the same symptoms. I hope this helps calm you down and good luck at your appointment.
