Breast core biopsy - anxious wait!

Hey everyone,

I have come across this forum and it's awesome!!

I found a pea sized lump in my breast at the end of Nov - went straight to the Drs who suspected a cyst but referred me to breast screening just to be on the safe side.

Appt at the clinic on Tuesday 14th Dec and had mammogram, ultra sound and core biopsy as not a cyst....  Consultant suspects Fibroadenoma and said that I would receive a letter either asking me to return or a letter confirming all was ok....

Received a letter through the post today asking me to return to the clinic on New Years Eve - called and asked for more information and she just said it's to get your results - the consultant prefers to give results face to face!

I am not sure how I am going to cope through Christmas, I am so anxious and overthinking everything!!

And driving my husband insane!!

  • Thank you! It is also an anxious wait. I'm in my final year of my nursing degree... so I'm sure you can imagine my mind is in overdrive.

I hope you can also try distract yourself and try enjoy Christmas tomorrow ️

  • Hell yeah the wait is always anxious!!

I hope you managed to enjoy your Christmas day a little at least - Although a little emotional in the morning, the day went really well and was a welcome distraction for me!!

    Much love xx

  • Hey everyone,

I got the news I was dreading yesterday at the hospital - I have been diagnosed with Invasive breast cancer.....

I was told that the cancer is small, doesn't look like it has travelled anywhere, is contained and the Breast nurse said....  It's treatable and curable.

So I have an appt for a contrast enhanced spectral mammogram next Friday and my treatment plan will be decided pending the results -

Can anyone on here tell what the above mammogram is like please?? [@Jolamine]‍ ??

  • Hi

I had an ultrasound and biopsy recently and was not reassured that it was a fibroadenoma. When I asked if the lump was suspicious they said they thought it didn't show the characteristics of a fibroadenoma and told me to bring someone to my next appointment.

If it's not a fibroadenoma does that mean it's likely to be cancer and that is something they could tell from the ultrasound. I suspect they didn't want to tell me if they thought it was cancer because I'm 9 months pregnant and didn't have anyone with me.

Very worried about prognosis. Not sure whether it is better to find out before or after I give birth, but I guess I have no control over that!

  • I'm sorry to hear of your news chellept6 but it's good that it's small and contained.

I have no experience of the contrast spectral mammogram I'm afraid as I had an MRI with contrast to determine my treatment plan in terms of surgery as I'm currently awaiting those results.

Here if you need to talk

  • Hi Anon,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry that this is overshadowing the imminent birth of your baby. Unfortunately the health care staff cannot be sure whether or not there is any cancer present until the results of your biopsy come back. Did they tell you when the results are likely to be back or how long they might take?

Not all lumps are cancerous. Even if it's not a fibroadenoma, there are other things that it could be besides cancer. For instance, it could be a benign cyst or hormonal changes. I do sincerely hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

They said results would take 10 days but could only get mr an appoint for 3 weeks time (5 days before due date). Hopefully they will find an appointment to bring it forward so I will start chasing soon.

  • Thank you for replying, it's certainly been a very surreal few weeks and not the start to the New Year I was hoping for but on a positive note I am thankful that I found it early!!

Ah ok re the mammogram - doesn't sound too pleasant but I'm sure the thought of the dye in the veins is worse than it actuually is xx

  • The thought is always much worse. It did feel a bit funny when it first goes in but not painful just weird

  •

    Hi Chellept6,

The only way that you'll notice the dye is that your urine will be an odd colour for a few days. I had no bother at all with it.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
