15cm Ovarian Cyst -how long will I have to wait for surgery?

Hi all,

They gynaecologist has recently told me that I have a 15cm ovarian cyst on my left ovary. He didn't give me much information about what happens next other than that I will need to go for a CT scan, that it'll likely need to be removed by surgery and that it's likely too large to be removed through key hole surgery.

My initial appointment was around a week ago and I mostly would like to know, how long it usually takes from intial diagnosis to actually getting surgery? And also anyone who has experienced this, their perspective would be very helpful.

Also, my CA-125 levels have came back normal which is a reassuring sign but it is constantly painful and uncomfortable so I am eager for this to progress.

Thanks in advance :)

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst and that you're now waiting for surgery. it's reassuring to hear that your CA125 levels haven't given any cause for concern although understandably this doesn't solve the pain and discomfort you're living with.

Waiting times for surgery really do vary between health boards and with the current Covid situation unfortunately waiting times are being impacted. If you've not heard anything by the new year then you could give your Consultant's secretary a call and ask about waiting times. They should be able to give you some kind of indication about when the Consultant is hoping to be able to operate.

I do hope that you don't have to wait too long and that you recover quickly.

    Best wishes,
