Firm small lumps

Hello,

I've had a reasonably firm lump almost feels rubbery under my thigh skin, hip and also two on my back.
When I've googled the symptoms it either seems to come back with a harmless Lipoma or Sarcoma so not much middle ground!  what's worrying me is when I see symptoms of Lipomas it always mentions how soft and squishy they are but like I say mine feel like little rubber peas.
From what I've read sarcomas seem to grow, sometimes rapidly but mine haven't changed in months.
I have an ultrasound booked in but I've heard doctors often struggling to tell the difference between Lipomas and Sarcomas so now I'm worried sick, has anyone been diagnosed with quite hard feeling Lipomas?

  • Hi Tank. As you've seen from my posts I'm going through a very different experience to you, so hard to comment on what you've been going through specifically.

if I could give you only one piece of advice - please please don't get into the Google rabbit hole. The internet will tell you the sky is bright green if you look on the right websites. Best to be seen by a dr, and try to stay away from Google as hard as that may be - we all have inquisitive minds

i hope all ends up well with you and have a great Christmas

  • Thanks for the words, yes it's very easy to go from simple lump like cyst to terminal cancer in 2 mins on Google, just a bit worried as my dad had skin cancer although I'm told he was a heavy sun bed user, I haven't been in contact with him for years so cannot confirm any details unfortunately.
I also had a friend who was diagnosed with a simple Lipoma by his Dr, then confirmed as Lipoma at ultrasound and even when they removed it by minor surgery the Dr exclaimed it was a typical Lipoma only to be told at biopsy it was in fact a soft tissue Sarcoma, reason being they are so similar it's very difficult to tell them apart until other ailments start to rear their head by which time it's far more difficult to treat.

  • Hi

what was the outcome for you?

  • Hello,

I went in to the hospital for the ultrasound in Jan and there was a doctor and sonographer doing the scans, the doctor literally looked at each lump for 2 seconds and said Lipoma.
In some ways it was reassuring that she diagnosed it so quick but in another way I wished she would have taken a bit of time to check carefully as like I said from what I've read many doctors get it wrong first time round.
She sent the scans off and  my doctor phoned to say they were lipomas so hopefully someone else had cast an eye over them.
My minds a bit more at peace now but I can certainly see the worrying side other people experience finding lumps and  waiting for scans etc really not a great experience and I really feel for people with much harsher symptoms.

  • Hey

thanks for replying, that's brilliant news I pray mine is Lipoma I have small lumps under the skin on my leg only really visible when I stand on tiptoes, I'm waiting for an ultrasound I also have slight pain in the same leg and a range of other health issues, my GP didn't really say much except try not to worry about it and I have a 5-6week wait for an ultrasound

  • The leg is one of the most common places for Lipoma, from what I was told the lumps growing and having a dull painful feeling from deep within the bone are the signs to look for.
A private scan costs around £250 if you don't fancy waiting that long, I'm sure it will be fine.
