Hi. I have been reading various forum posts for the last 6 months trying to relate myself with the experience of others. I wanted to share my experience as it might bring some comfort to someone in a similar boat.
6 months ago I started getting back and left hip pain and within a few weeks developed lower left abdominal pain and groin pain. I thought it was diverticulitis as a gp had once mentioned it to me a few years ago , but this was discounted at the time. I developed bloating , especially in the evening. One morning the pain was so bad I phoned 111. An appointment was made with a GP , who was great, ordering a FIT , calprotectin and elastase tests. All came back normal. I had an abdominal CT which found nothing. I lost 10kg in a few weeks.
I tried low fodmap foods and probiotics, which may have helped a little. My GP eventually prescribed me SNRI which seemed to fix my bowels in no time. I was eating normally and thought I was on the mend. I then developed leg pains , especially my left calf, burning and cramping. A slightly elevated blood test led to an ultrasound on my leg but this was normal. A few weeks of normality and the stomach pains return ed , more central in my abdomen than before, now with the occasional mucous and blood. I quickly had a colonoscopy through private insurance. And again this seems to be normal but I await full results.
I have had a barrage of medical tests and been iller than ever before in my life. But my doctor thinks all these symptoms are unrelated and are being compounded by anxiety. A difficult diagnosis to accept but one I should accept.
So despite having what I thought was a tick box of serious symptoms, you have to trust the process. And thankfully it seems I will be ok.
