Swollen lump in neck 10 years +

Hi,

I have had a hard moveable lump in the back of my neck for about 10 years if not more! When I was younger my mum took me to the doctors and for a scan and they said it was just a cyst.

over the last year it has been getting bigger to the point you can see it at the back of my neck and it's probably about 3/4 of an inch big.

i went back to the doctors and they referred me for a blood test and ultrasound - still waiting for my blood results appointment will be almost 2 months later!! But had my scan today and the scanner seemed concerned but didn't say much. He said I had more lymph nodes in my neck then normal and this one is very big and has calcium on it. He left to get a second opinion and the lady who was in there with me kept asking if I was ok which put more doubt in my mind. When he came back with a colleague to look they were both talking quietly looking at my scan and the 2nd man said I need to be referred to a specialist and the looks on their faces said bad news.

now I've got to wait for a referral back to my gp to be sent to a specialist - not sure what I'm trying to get from posting this on here just wanted to see if anyone has had the same sort of thing and what the outcome was?

i have a daughter who will be two next month and my heart is breaking thinking the worst. I just know the appointment is going to take so long at the moment too!

thanks in advance ️

  • Hi H092626,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this must be unsettling, and I know the uncertainty is never easy. You've done all the right things by getting this checked out, and it's good to hear you have the referral as this should mean you get the answers you need before too long.

Waiting times in general are a little longer at the moment, but hopefully you have been given an indication of when you should expect to hear more, and hopefully it won't be too long to wait.

In the meantime, try not to assume anything, and try if you can to take things one day at a time.

Meanwhile if anyone here has similar experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
