Are blood test results cause for optimism or worry?

About 3-4 weeks ago started getting queasy feeling in stomach and a lot of wind - mainly burping. Went to doctor who put me on Omeprazole. Seemed to help with burping but almost couple of weeks into taking medicine started getting crampy, constipation type feeling in lower abdomen as well. Didn't seem to have any problem pooing or change in stool colour etc though. Went back to doctor who said stop taking Omeprazole, do a blood test and also a stool test. The latter has to wait for a couple of weeks to allow the effects of Omeprazole to wear off apparently.

Anyway, got the blood tests back and they were all clear but have a week and a half to wait until I can do stool one. Crampy feeling only seemed to last for a few days but still got queasy stomach most days. Comes and goes, not constant. Occasional twinge in right testicle too.

My big question is, is the blood tests being clear a good thing in that it means it's less likely to be something serious or is that not necessarily the case? Could the stool test still pick up something nasty?

For the record the blood test investigations requested were: Bone profile (CA, Phos, ALP), Ferritin, Full Blood Count (FBC, Hb, WBC), GGT, Liver Function test (LFT).

  • Hi stu1970,

It's certainly a good thing that the blood tests were clear - try to take some reassurance from this. The doctor will be doing any tests that they feel are necessary to find out the required information. If for any reason they felt the blood tests were insufficient, they would do a further test.

The stool test will of course be testing something different, so try to sit tight until that is done and until you get the results following that. Then you will have a chance to talk things through with your doctor, and I hope that further reassurance can come with that.

    Wishing you all the best,
