Called in for follow-up...

I had a1a cervical cancer in 2017, treated by lletz, all smears since hpv clear.

I had a smear last month and the consultant thought my cervix appeared unusually hard and flat, I've also been having abnormal bleeding for a couple of months, he ordered an mri which I had 2 weeks ago.

Today I've been called in for a follow-up face to face appointment, but it's not for 3 weeks.

In your experience is the length of time here a promising sign? If the cancer was back would it be quicker? Or is the time irrelevant?

I'm pretty anxious and don't know what to think.

Thank you

  • Hello JC79

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some health concerns. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about things given your medical history.

We know that for many people waiting for results and appointments can be a very difficult time and it's easy to try and read between the lines in terms of how long things take. At the moment lots of appointments are running differently to pre-Covid due to clinic capacity and staffing levels.

Try to take things a day and a time and remain positive until you're given any information to the contrary. If you think it might help to talk things through with someone you're welcome to call our team of nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they'll be happy to offer any advice and support that they can.

I hope your appointment brings some reassurance. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
