Repeat Colonoscopy (12 months later)

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with going for a Repeat Colonoscopy and what were the reasons given.

Context
M:31 YO
2020 Christmas: + Fit (53)/ Faecal Calprotectin normal  = 2 week referral (no findings, clear prep, discharged)
Early 2021: symtoms of bowel habbit change = referred for upper endoscopy (o findings, clear prep, discharged)
Late 2021: FIT test (20), this time with Calprotectin (Faecal Calprotectin now 617)

12 moths later because of the above have been referred for the 2 week colonoscopy. Consusltant has not given any reasons. I can only assume it is due to check for any misses (I know the miss rate is 25% for small tumors and 10% for large). But wold have been nice to be given context and reasons.

Wondering if anyone else has been through something simular?

  • Hello Craig011011

I'm sorry to hear that you find yourself waiting for another colonoscopy. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about things.

It's good to hear that the investigations you've had over the past 12 months didn't raise any concerns but I can understand that you're feeling anxious about things. Hopefully, the Consultant is just being thorough in checking to see what has caused the raised calprotectin levels.

Has the hospital given you a time frame in which you'll have your appointment? Although many people are referred under the 2ww pathways at the moment we know that things can take a bit longer. If you don't have a date for the appointment then it may be worth giving them a call to see when you may hear some news. Hopefully it won't be too long.

If you want to talk through any concerns with our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    Best wishes,
