I was initially told it would take two weeks for the results when I had it done but was later told it would be four. I think it depends on the area you live in and how busy / backlogged they are. If it is bad news, they will get to you sooner. Even though I had a long wait, I was told sooner by phone than the revised date they gave me for an appointment to get my results that I had a pre-cancerous condition. Were you given the contact details of the Gynae specialist nurse? If so, I would try contacting them and see if they can give you an idea of how long you might have to wait. Do not worry about bothering them, that is what they are there for. Good luck!

I was so lucky and had a total hysterectomy with ovaries and fallopian tubes removed within around three weeks of getting my results at the end of September. Fortunately, they caught everything in time and no cancer was found anywhere. I was also lucky enough to have laprascopic (keyhole) surgery so my recovery was comfortable and well-managed with painkillers, including over the counter ones within 8 days.

Do call them today, don't wait! Stress is bad for you mentally and physically and you do NOT need that at an already stressful time. They honestly won't mind.

Did you have a scan before your hysterectomy n were the lymph nodes checked? I am Stage 2 grade 2 but I was never given a scan before hysterectomy. I am worried that the cancer has actually spread.

Hi Chui,

I had an ultrasound scan (internal and external) as a first line of investigation and then an MRI after my biopsy (where all looked fine when they examined me and took it but it later turned out there were pre-cancerous cells there). As far as I am aware, the lymph nodes weren't checked as they hadn't found any obvious evidence of anything having turned into actual cancer, which meant if there had been any it was contained and as removal of lymph nodes can sometimes cause other problems, they don't always do it unless they feel there is a need to. I think they scan beforehand depending on symptoms. If you are concerned, is there a nurse or someone else you can speak to just to help put your mind at ease? The very last thing they want is for cancer to spread so I am sure they did what they had to do. I do know the first line of defence, so to speak, is to remove everything, and them sometimes, to follow-up with radiation but everyone is different/unique and sometimes just the op and then frequent follow-ups are all that is needed depending on what they find. The best thing to do is to speak to your gynae / oncology team as they have all the information and should be able to talk you through things. Perhaps write down your questions and fears beforehand so you don't forget or get flustered, if you think that might be likely?

Sorry to hear you have Stage 2, Grade 2. Have you tried speaking to people on the Hyster Sisters website? They are not all North American on there and there is a range of nationalities and experiences. I know from speaking to others pre- and post-hysterectomy there were posters there who had the same diagnosis as you and were succesfully treated. It might be worth registering with them and asking there for their experiences, if you haven't done so already. They are a very supportive group.
