concerned

hello everyone!!

im starting to get very concerned. I have basically been having normal period (heavy flow with clots) since Oct this year. I am 40, Obese but quite active and no other health conditions. In the last month i have had 2 smear tests cancelled by my surgery due to Covid and i now have another appointment booked for the new year, stupidly i have not had a smear for over 11 years due to 1 thing or another.

I am now very concerned as i am starting to have what i would call period pains more or less on a daily basis and a pain in my lower back (this is generally in the mornings after i wake up so i am 50/50 as to whether this is to do more with my sleeping positions than anything else)

I have been reading everything i can on Cervical cancer and everyone seems to be spotting between periods or discharge where as i have not had a break in my period for almost 3 months.

has anyone else been in this position with an everlasting period then diagnosed with cervical cancer

The more i read the more confused and scared i get so any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thank you for your time

  • Hello Laurahoop

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health concerns recently. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious ahead of your cervical screening appointment in the new year. If the surgery asks to cancel or reschedule again then do ask to speak with a GP about your symptoms.

We know that many people turn to the internet when they're experiencing health problems. Unfortunately, this often leads to more anxiety as Dr. Google seems to always present a worst-case scenario. Try to avoid looking online for a cause for your symptoms and keep busy to distract yourself from overthinking things.

Hopefully, the screening results will give you some reassurance and your GP will then be able to arrange any other appropriate tests or appointments to try and improve things for you.

I do hope that this settles soon.

    Best wishes,
