Urgent Referral Waiting Time?

Hi everyone,

First of all, sending love to anyone who is on here trying to find peace of mind!

I've had 2 lumps in my right armpit and breast which have suddenly become about 4 x larger in matter of weeks. I had ignored them for months, but bf forced me to go to gp last week. She said it was worrying and made me an urgent referral on 10th December. Since then I've just been waiting and becoming increasingly scared.

How much notice do you get before your appointment? Does the hospital send a letter or call you these days? I feel like knowing any tiny little thing about the process would give me a bit of control back and help with the anxiety.

Thanks in advance Sarah x

  • Hi lovely,

The waiting is always the worst! I got a phone call from the hospital with a date and a confirmation letter a few days after.

They did a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies at this appointment and I was called with the initial results 4 days after. I was then booked in for a face to face appointment a week after this.

Try to keep busy as this really helps, hope you get an appointment soon.

    Kaye xx

  • Hello lovely

I can back Kaye up on this. I had to be urgently (red flag in NI) referred to dermatology over a dodgy mole. I had my appointment with my GP at the end of July, and got a call from the hospitals appointment office offering me an appointment mid August which was great! I also got a letter to confirm this a couple of days later. I also had to get a 3 month follow up and got a call for a cancellation 2 days later so they were pretty on the ball with me. I didn't get a letter for this one as it was so short notice.

I know how hard it can be and how scary it is so please come on the chat if you ever need to talk. We are here for you. Try and keep busy and calm and keep your chin up. You've got this ️ Sending positive vibes your way!!
