Biopsy waiting frustration

Hi All. I won't bore you with the details but about 3 months ago I found a lump in groin near an old melanoma scar. Saw the doc who was concerned so I had an urgent ultrasound where another doc told me he 'thought' it was probably cancer. Sent me for 'urgent' biopsy whichi had 2nd Dec. They told me results would be 7/10 days. Since then another consultant has sent me for CT scan which I had yesterday. I rang the secretary today to ask about the biopsy results and she is telling me that it's a 6/8 week wait time for results! So I have another 6 weeks to wait until someone can diagnose what they know is a swollen lymph node but may or may not be cancer. Luckily she thinks the CT scan results may be quicker!  I am on the urgent list and appreciate the pressure on NHS at the moment but is this what everyone else is finding? Top it all I started a new job in Nov, luckily my new boss is being great but my mind is shot with frustration of just waiting

  • Hi Basil1971,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this must be frustrating and I'm sure also disappointing to hear of the wait time when you had expected to find out sooner. I hope that the results do end up coming quicker than that timeframe. Waiting times are longer at the moment, but it can vary a little from place to place. At least you are being seen as urgent and that you have had the tests.

I know the waiting and uncertainty is always difficult. Try if you can to take things a day at a time and where possible try to keep your mind off things by keeping busy and focusing on other things.

Hopefully you'll receive further replies soon, especially from any others in similar situations.

Wishing you all the best and I hope you find out more soon,

    Ben
