Being sent for blood test - worried

About three weeks ago I started having a queasy stomach and a lot of wind. Went to see my GP and they gave me Omeprazole. After nearly two weeks of taking it the wind seemed to be better but the queasy (didn't feel like throwing up or anything) stomach feeling was still there. Sometime think it might have got worse after eating but not sure. Also started to get a bit of a tight, constipation-type feeling in the lower abdomen. Pooing normally but a sort of feeling I wasn't empty. Last couple of days stools have been quite loose and accompanied by a lot of wind. Also quite gurgly down there and pooing a lot today. Called GP again who said I should do a blood test and a poo test. Can't remember the entire details but did ask her if cancer could be one of the potential things that a blood test might point towards. She said it's one of various possibilities. Having done the worst thing and done my own 'research' online I seem to have convinced myself that it might be bowel cancer as it what I'm experiencing seems to fit a lot of the symptoms listed. Very worried, as I don't handle stress at the best of times. I'm 51 BTW.

  • I'm sorry the Omeprazole wasn't as effective as you were hoping Stu, and for the worry the GP's request for a blood and poo test is causing.

I know it will be tough but try to see these tests as a positive as it shows your GP is being very thorough and doing all they can to find out the cause of your symptoms.

Many of our members know how scary and stressful this time can be so I'm sure some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice but in the meantime we're thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.
