Inverted nipple

Hello.
I guess I'm just here looking for some positivity really, but also some reality to it and what the odds are.
I've had an itchy nipple this week, didn't think anything of it as I do get it occasionally, but last night when getting ready for bed I noticed it had retracted like I've never noticed it do before, like really sunk in. It's not like now and no longer itching either but it is a bit sore,

My Mum passed away 15 years ago and it was because her breast cancer had spread so I've always been very conscious of checking my boobs and knowing what to look out for! But also it doesn't help my anxiety with this having a family history. (Hers started with a little pea size lump)

I'm 34, this nipple I also had pierced many years ago, and does tend to play up a bit, I.E after having my babies that boob always leaked the most and took for the milk ti dry up.
I can't get into see my doctor today as all appointments have gone, so I basically have to spend my weekend worrying about it.
Does anyone have any stories that are similar to mine and it turned out to be something else? It's not retracted now but does look swollen compared to the other one and feels tender.
Hope someone has some advice. X

  • Hello Mummy06 and welcome to Cancer Chat,

It's great that you've got into the habit of checking your breasts regularly though I am really sorry about your mum. I can imagine this weekend is particularly stressful for you and I hope that you will get some responses from other members of the forum who have similar stories to share.

All you can do really for now is wait which I know is the hardest thing and try if you can to stay well away from Google as this will only make you worry even more. Give your doctor a call first thing on Monday and see if you can get an appointment soon to talk about this.

I am keeping everything crossed for you that it turns out to be nothing to worry about.

    Best wishes,
