• Hi Emma

Oh my...you’re clearly having issues being listened to by your gp, and I can see why you are concerned about your symptoms. Having had cervical cancer, I’d make 2 points-if you have a tumour, then a ct scan  would pick that up, and a CA125 test is not used in the diagnosis of cervical cancer, so I’m not sure why that particular test was performed, although good to know the result was normal.

Normally a cervical examination would be performed by a gynaecologist so is there no word of you having that done, or was this done by the private doctor? It seems quite unusual to go straight to a ct scan without a physical examination, and normally a biopsy if anything suspicious is seen. xx

  • Hello , thanks for the reply,  how are you today?

And sorry to learn about your diagnosis, twice must of been terrifying , how are you now? And I hope you are getting all the help you need.

I guess my local GP did a CA125 because of the pelvic pain I am getting and probably thought it was ovarian related, maybe she was covering all bases but clearly not all bases.

I asked for a smear pap test to be done , and I was booked in for the 18th of this month , but I wanted to bring the appointment forward as I started bleeding during intercourse at the weekend just gone , and spoke to my gp about this and asked could it be brought forward and in the meantime have a physical examination

Her answer was no they are not offering face to face appointments and unfortunately I became more frustrated by her bypassing every symptom under the sun and stars , so ultimately i told her what I thought of her and now they have de registered me as a patient at the GP surgery Because I'm apparently a rude person ,(More like desperate to be listened to) this is why i have gone private to get some quicker and clearer answers, it was my idea to arrange a CT scan because I just need to find out the score once and for all, if its cervical cancer tumor it would show up.. at least I think so , but obviously not absolutely certain,  I guess I'm desperate for answers now to my fate

I will try and get a pap test done privately aswell or maybe at a sexual health clinic as I won't be able to get it done at my GP surgery atall now I'm banned from any help

In hindsight now , maybe I shouldn't of spoken to my GP in a demanding Manor but I feel 5 steps ahead knowing I have a CT scan lined up.

I do hope you keep well , or if not I hope you are coping yourself , such a awful time and us ladies go through so much it's never ending complex body of ours

Take care of yourself and merry Christmas

  • Hi Emma

The thing is, a smear test is not a diagnostic test for cervical cancer. It is a screening test for abnormal cells which are caused by the HPV virus, which, if left untreated, COULD potentially turn cancerous. So, it’s not really what you need, which is a physical examination by a gynaecologist. A smear test is also not infallible-you can have a clear smear yet still have cervical cancer.

Tiny cancers may not show up on any type of scan- cancer needs to be a certain size to show up. But of course you may not have cancer at all-your symptoms are more likely to have a less serious explanation.

I hope you can get registered with another gp on the nhs, as clearly private tests and treatment are very expensive. To be de registered at a time when you have worrying symptoms is a real concern.

I have had excellent nhs treatment so have no complaints at all, because I was lucky enough to have an initial swift referral from my gp and multiple treatments. I am well thank you and very grateful still to be here.

I hope you can get answers very soon and get some reassurance. xx
