Inconclusive biopsy.

Hi!

I have been feel under the weather for a while now having headaches and swollen neck so went to the drs, he sent me for an ultrasound on my neck.

When I had an ultrasound on my neck they told me that I had lots of nodules but only one they were concerned about. They did a biopsy and told me I would have the results in two weeks.

When I was talking to my Dr he had told me that the results were not good and was told I have a goiter and the biopsy has come back with possible cancer, he told it's inconclusive thy3f.

For the headaches they sent me to ent an they put a camera up my nose an can't see an infectious but said the sinuses are slightly swollen. I have a spray for it an to take paracetamol and ibuprofen.

I have the thyroid ent now on Wednesday!

I don't not really have a point to this post but I think I just needed to put it out there somewhere!

We have my husband 40th on Saturday and I know people will ask how things or how are you and with gritted teeth you say good.

I guess if anyone else has had thy3f or goiter would like to share there experience I would be keen to hear about it.

  • Hello Kmcg21

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had a biopsy which has come back as inconclusive and you're now waiting on further tests. We know from posts here on the forum that it's not uncommon for thyroid biopsies to show these kinds of results and it can leave people feeling very anxious and worried until the next steps are known.

[@Sonj]‍ recently posted this thread about a thy3f result. You might like to read her thread and post a comment. I'm sure that she or [@MargaretMary]‍ (who has been through treatment for thyroid cancer) will post to share their experiences and words of advice with you.

In the meantime, if you want to chat with our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. They will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support that they can.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your next appointment and that the Consultant is able to give you some reassurance. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi. I haven't had the whole inconclusive thing, but as Jenn said, I have been treated for thyroid cancer.

My consultant told me when I was diagnosed that "it's not the worst situation in the world" and he was right. My situation involved a biopsy in November 2019 that showed cancer, then an operation to remove my thyroid and all the lymph nodes at one side of my neck in January 2020. I was in hospital for a week and went back to work at the start of February.

I was supposed to have radioiodine treatment over the Easter holidays, but covid kicked in and it was late May when I finally got that done. That was really just annoying. It only really involved taking a capsule, but I had to go on a low iodine diet before it and then restrict my contacts (as I was radioactive) for a couple of weeks afterwards. There was no pain or sickness or anything involved though. This was because I had an extremely large nodule and there was spread to some lymph nodes.

Not having a thyroid means I have to take medication each morning. I just take two tablets and then go about my day as normal. The whole situation isn't really as scary as one imagines when one hears the word "cancer."

  • Thanks for your reply I have the consultant on Wednesday so hopefully will know more then!

I think it's the waiting and your mind going into overdrive doesn't help.

  • Hello I read your post . I'm sorry to hear what your going through it's very hard not knowing and waiting on results. I had the same results a thy3f result on my biopsy . I had the rest of my thyroid removed last Thursday 3rd March and I'm awaiting results of that biopsy now to c what my next step is . They said most likely I will have iodine radiotherapy in a few wks but depending on results that could change . I hope you have recieved results now . I dunno will my story help but if u want to chat anytime or have any more questions just ask . I try to stay positive as I have small kids bits it's hard sometimes. Regards Sonya .

  • Hi no, was due surgery on the 1st March but due to the consultant having covid it was cancelled. Waiting now on a new date for surgery for partial Thyroid removal.

  • I have the same result and am on the waiting list for surgery. No date as yet. Will have to keep in touch. I'm finding the waiting so hard x
