1b Melanoma

I was diagnosed with a 1b melanoma 0.6mm, had it removed and the margins were clear, recently had the wide local excision 4 weeks ago and still waiting for the results. Been told it can take up to 2 to 4 wks for results. My follow up with plastic surgeon is in 2 weeks time. I've spoken to my skin nurse to keep checking if my results are in but still nothing. My anxiety is through the roof, I've discussed this with GP etc. I had breast cancer 5 years ago so my thoughts are racing away.

  • Hello JKear

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with melanoma. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about things following this news.

It's good to hear that the margins were clear and I hope that you're healing well from the WLE. We know that waiting for results can be a really worrying time but hopefully, when you see the Consultant in 2 weeks they will be able to give you some reassurance about things. I know that one of our regulars here on the forum [@AngieT]‍ had stage 3 melanoma over 10 years ago and is well. Try to take things a day at a time and keep positive.

If you want to talk to one of our nurses for some advice and support you're most welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Keep in touch JKear and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your lovely message. Yes it is reassuring that the margins were clear on the first procedure for the melanoma so I'm hoping for the same again. I'm recovering really well from the WLE. My anxiety is difficult mainly because of my clinical history of BC, but I'm keeping myself occupied and distracted and surrounding myself with my special people. xxx
