Cancer in pregnancy

Hello wonderful community,

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and have just found out I have breast cancer. The specifics aren't known yet (biopsy results come back on Thursday) but I have a 5cm lump on the breast and also a lump under my arm. the breast doctor knew just by looking and then the ultrasound confirmed that.

i was wondering if anyone has gone through this while pregnant? It's all happening so quickly. Would so appreciate some guidance on the process from someone who knows - the nurse said for example I'd be looking at a mastectomy straight away instead of chemo (which they'd do if I wasn't pregnant) but looking at other posts here that is 100% an option.

just looking for some friendly guidance at this point. Thank you xx

  • Hi Anna.cb,

I'm so sorry to read about your diagnosis. Hopefully someone will come along here to give advice who has been through this while pregnant, but just wanted to let you know of the charity 'mummy's star' who specifically offer support (and a forum) for those with cancer in and around pregnancy. The 'Breastcancer now' website also have a 'someone like me' service where they can put you in touch with someone who has also been in your position who may be able to offer some guidance.

For general chat about BC there are many of us going through or been through it here, so do still ask for support/ any questions here too if needed. You are also entitled to a second opinion throughout your treatment if you want it. Wishing you all the best.

  • Thank you. Very helpful, I'll jump over onto mummy's star x
