1st Chemo Session

Hi. I'm due to have my 1st chemo session soon. I'll be having the cold cap too so know ill be there longer. I know to drink lots of water but just wondered if I need to take anything else with me, anything to help? Many thanks for ny advice

  • Hi

The first session you usually get lots of information from nurses so it's a bit daunting. But wear something comfy I know the ward I have to go in can get warm so layers are best. Also ease for if you need to go for wee. Snacks, drinks, book or mag if you read. Or download something to listen too or watch.

Hope all goes well, here if you have any questions or need to chat.

  • Hi Morgan

I have just finished my 6 cycles of FECT  chemo and it really was nt as bad as I feared. I used the cold cap too and have kept z good 70% of my hair, which made me feel so positive. The first 15 mins are the hardest but get through that and ur head goes numb so u can t feel it. Use a really good conditioner and slather it on . I also wrapped a scarf around my neck which helped massively.  Ask for a warm drink as down as the cap is on. I also took a hot water bottle and fluffy blanket, more for comfort really than the cold. Take the sickness meds they give u as this was the only side effect I had really , a bit of nausea.  I avoided mouth sores as swilled with coconut oil 3 times a day which I read somewhere and it really helped. Lots of water and  good sleep the night of chemo and ull be fine.

With regards to the toilet when on chemo u can unplug it from the mains and the cap stays on .

    Hope this helps. Good luck
