Hysteroscopy

Had a number of tests on Tuesday, starting with a ultrasound, then saw a specialist nurse who told me i had thickening and she would by carrying out an hysteroscopy and a biopsy. After she did all the tests, she informed me that she could see both pre-cancerous AND cancerous cells, that I had three polyps as well as a small fibroid.

she said she was also sending me for an MRI within the next two weeks and that my biopsy results will come back in two weeks also.

has anyone else been given the news that its likely to be cancer prior to the biopsy results? Thank you

  • Yeah, 2 weeks ago they more or less told my wife she had breast cancer before they had even sent the biopsies off for testing. Whilst it wasn't 100% certain, they told us not to go expecting anything else or get our hopes up.

The reality is, sometimes they are wrong.  There are stories out there proving this is the case, but they're  a tiny wee minority. So whilst you've not got a 100% nailed on diagnosis, I would go along with what we got told, expect the conformation once the results come in. IF you fall into the tiny minority that get told they do have cancer (someone has to fall into this category), then it turns out not to be, then good.  But don't go getting your hopes up just to be deflated again if the results come back as expected.

I know what I've written isn't the most positive, but like we had to 2 weeks ago, assume the worse and it stands you in better stead when you're sat in the room getting the results. We found that a lot easier to deal with than had we buried our heads and expected it to be something other than something sinister.

  • Hi, thanks for replying.

I am sorry to near that your wife is going through breast cancer, its a tough time. I hope they have caught it at its earliest stage. I had bc 4yrs ago so I understand the emotional rollercoaster, as you know its the waiting of results that is often the worst-take it in stages, once you understand what you're dealing with and what the treatment is you are able to face it and once you've been through a specific treatment, its then on to whats next!  I have just had my fourth year with the all clear! The treatment and prognosis is always better if its early stages.

A year after my BC I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (bone and blood cancer), and have been through a whole range of treatment including a Stem Cell Transplant.

So here I am just over two years later with another cancer! I was appreciative of the specialist nurse telling me what she could see, and her belief was that it was pre-cancerous and cancerous cells... but since then and following research it appears that not many people are informed of this before the biopsy results are in... this is for endometrial cancer. I have had a call this morning to book me in for an MRI for next Tuesday-so that came through surprisingly quick!

All my very best to you and your wife

  • Hi, I hope you are okay.
i realise your post was over 2 years ago but I’m looking for some insight.

I have a lot of discomfort in my pelvis - period type cramps and heaviness (I am 44) and urges to urinate more often.

A TVU found fluid in uterine cavity (I don’t have periods because of pill). This was found in February this year. I saw gynaecologist on 20/7 and now on list for stereoscopy.

(I had bladder checked with cystoscopy and cystitis cystica was found though had no treatment and still have microscopic blood and leukocytes in urine)

if you are able to update me on how you got on o would really appreciate it.
