Second opinions ?

I was diagnosed with a cancer in my breast in August. It turned out to not be 'normal' breast cancer but a small cell neuroendocrine tumour as well as a ductal cancer.

I have had surgery to remove the tumour, sentinel nodes showed cancer cells. So, an auxiliary node clearance was done, there was no cancer in the remaining nodes.

I have now been prescribed chemotherapy for breast cancer, the type of tumour that was in my breast is normally found in somewhere like the lung. It has been acknowledged that it is very rare to have this kind of tumour as a primary in the breast. There is no definitive treatment for it. I am concerned that I am being given 'routine' breast cancer treatment and that there maybe alternative chemotherapy treatments.

Does anyone think that I should seek a 'second opinion' on whether the right treatment program is being given ?

  • Hi,

sorry to find you here asking for advice.

sounds like you seem a little tricky.

glad Im not the only one.

usually results are taken to an MDT (multiple disciplinary team meeting -in which nurses, doctors ,chemo oncologist , Radiotherapy oncologists,

physio, breast surgeons etc etc all get together in these MDT meetings and discuss cases. ) so your case should have had input on by around 5 specialists already -they come up with the best treatment plan designed for each patient.

lots of different treatment plans can be given to a variety of cancers~
my chemo can be given not just to breast cancer patients like me but to prostate and others.

can you phone your cancer nurse for advice.

write down any questions you can think

    of.

    so you don't forget,

     best of luck with everything
