Dad has liver cancer blocking his bile duct

Hello, I havent stopping sobbing, my dad has been told he's got a tumour on his liver blocking his bile duct, he collapsed yesterday and is in hospital waiting what treatment he can have if he can have any.

he has jaundice, is so weak and feels unwell/ is there any hope?

im early 30s and lost my mum and brother already don't know what I'll do if I lose him too, just wondered if anyone has been through similar and managed to have a survivors story?

  • Hi, sorry you've had a rough time and more so lately:

I can't offer much advice about bile duct blockages. But have first hand knowledge of having cancer ( I have sgrade2 breast cancer ) and supporting and looking after parents with it too. (Mam died 2018 with lung ca / dad died in may)

I'm glad he's in hospital at least you know he's getting tests and he's getting looked after.

See if you can make an appoitment with his consultant with you being present to talk over what's going on. My mam had late presentation lung Ca and was to frail for treatment and lasted 7weeks. mam was 66.
And my Dad had prostate cancer which had spread -he had life expectancy of 2-3years and lived for 8. He had hormone injection every 3months but was mint given any other option (no surgery/ chemo etc) dad was 67.

Try and write down questions you need to ask.
I presume he needs a biopsy to see what it is? grade /spread /surgery / treatment. Some people ask about lufe expectancy so they can plan ahead -but would take with pinch of salt. If he was to return home could he manage , carers to help him. Etc. Hospital can help arrange for care package for 6weeks for free.

Don't give up hope- you don't know what's your dealing with and even when you do then there's lots of advice and Help out there( and on here)

    here if you need chat

  • Hi Efffie,

thanks so much for replying to me and I'm so sorry you've lost both of your parents to cancer, I'm really struggling with the thought of losing my dad too- life feels so unfair at the minute, especially as I'm surrounded by friends full of big families.

Your dad had an incredible battle and that gives me hope that perhaps my dad can get through this too.

yes next step is mrcp scan and biopsy x
