Awaiting Results from Bone and CT Scan

Hi all, I'm new here and this is my first time posting - nervous so please forgive any typos!  I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, and had a wide excision lumpectomy and sentinel node excision earlier this month.  Unfortunately, one of the nodes showed a deposit suggesting the cancer had started to spread.  I was sent for a bone and CT scan, both of which were carried the day after I got the news.  I know this is exceptionally fast, so I'm very grateful.   However, the appointment with my oncologist has just come through and it's 3 weeks away.  My question is do I have to wait until the for the results and is this everyone's experience with timelines in this siutation?

Thanks so much in advance.

  • Hi Kerrie.

Sorry to find you online -this site is good for people going and sharing experiences.

I've had a similar situation. And a few months further down the line.
Bone scans and CT scans are done and reported on by radiologists or physicists and this report often takes a few days. The results of your surgery will also take a few weeks to come back to stage /grade it.

I found lump. Waited 24hours for GP appt. Waited 5days till seen in breast clinic-told same smash defo cancer.had biopsy in breast clinic 10th Aug-  for got my results 2weeks after biopsy. Then had to wait four weeks for surgery. ( lumpectomy and sentinal nodes) Then 2weeks for surgery results. (Stage2invasive Ductal breast cancer /negatuve lymph node. Oestrogen positive. Her negative )
my cancer was sent to California for Oncotype Dx score. Waited 2weeks for results. (Score came back 22-in 42years old) Then three weeks for referral to chemo oncologist. Then two weeks till my first chemo session.

    Mine worked
Most Hospitals have an MDT meeting ( multi discipline team -physios surgeon, oncologist, breast nurse . Etc etc) discuss your case Age , cancer type. Size. Stage etc and come up with an agreed plan of action.  Then this best plan is discussed with you.

if you are concerned you can phone up and ask to be fitted into a cancellation slot if available.

or phone up each day. They will get sick of you calling.

It's the waiting game that was the killer for me- was driving me insane.
Please Shout up if you need any advice from Me.
